A blank HTML file is a symptom, not a diagnosis: the saved file may truly be empty or incomplete, or it may contain markup that displays as a white page. First inspect the file, then check whether the page had finished loading and whether Save Page WE’s available save method affects that site. The extension is intended to save a page “as currently displayed,” according to its official Chrome listing; that description alone cannot identify why a particular capture failed.
First, find out what “blank” means
Before changing settings, distinguish among three different results:
- Zero-byte or nearly empty file: the save may not have completed or the capture may have produced little output.
- HTML source exists, but the page looks white: the document may lack captured page content, or its content may depend on resources or browser behavior that did not carry over.
- Only a title, shell, or placeholder appears: the page may have been captured before its content loaded, or the site may build content dynamically.
Open the saved file in a text editor and note its size. Check whether it contains an HTML document and meaningful body content. This is a diagnostic step, not proof of a particular cause: the official documentation cannot inspect your file or determine what it contains.
Try these checks in order

Wait for the original page to finish loading
Return to the website, wait until its visible content and any delayed sections appear, and save again. Lazy-loaded or delayed content can be missed if capture begins too soon. Check the extension version and save method
Save Page WE documentation describes an original method and a new or alternative method. The documented behavior uses the original method when possible, while the alternative can handle some pages the original method cannot. If your installed version offers a save-method setting—or lets you force a method—try the other available method for one controlled retry rather than switching permanently. Labels and availability can differ by browser and version. Consult the official Firefox listing and documentation.

Compare the failing site with a simple page
Try saving a basic, mostly static page. If that works while one particular site fails, the problem is more likely specific to that page, its loading state, frames, resources, or a browser restriction than to every save. This comparison narrows the investigation but does not identify the precise cause.

Inspect the saved HTML
Use a text editor to check for a document structure, body content, and whether the file appears truncated. Then open it locally in a browser. Record the file size and what you see in both places: a white local page with substantial markup is different from an empty file.

If every page fails, simplify the browser setup
Confirm Save Page WE is enabled and current, review its options and the browser’s download behavior, and retry with other extensions temporarily disabled. Extension interference is a troubleshooting possibility, not a cause established by the cited Save Page WE documentation.

Report the problem with enough detail to reproduce it
The official listing provides developer support contact information. Include your browser and version, Save Page WE version, affected page URL, whether the page had finished loading, the chosen save method and relevant options, file size and a brief description of its HTML contents, and whether a simple test page saves successfully.
Why the save method and browser can matter
The official Firefox documentation distinguishes the original and alternative save methods and describes page cases in which the original method may fail but the alternative can succeed. The extension’s release history also documents fixes involving frames, content security policy, mixed or slow resources, page-load timing, and browser privacy behavior. These are plausible areas to check, not evidence that any one of them caused your blank file.

Save behavior and download dialogs can differ between browsers, and method labels or availability can vary by installed version. Store listings are time-sensitive: the Chrome listing has reported version 33.9 with an update date of September 5, 2023, while Mozilla’s listing follows a different release track. Check the version actually installed in your browser rather than assuming a listing number applies to your setup.

Save Page WE is described as saving a page into one HTML file as it is currently displayed, and its options support different save workflows. Official release notes show that page structure, frames, resource loading, and browser behavior have mattered in some fixes. None of that establishes a universal explanation for blank output or lets anyone diagnose your specific file without its contents and the circumstances of the save. User reviews describing incomplete captures are anecdotes, not failure-rate measurements or proof of another user’s cause.
