Open the webpage, use the browser’s Print command, select a PDF destination if one is available, check the preview, and save the file only to a location the venue permits. On a shared computer, a PDF download can remain after you close the browser, so handle the file and any signed-in accounts before you leave.
Save a webpage as a PDF
- Open the webpage and wait for the content you need to finish loading.
- Open the browser’s print command. In Chrome, choose File > Print, or press Ctrl+P on Windows or Linux, or Command+P on a Mac. Google’s instructions also describe selecting a destination and adjusting print settings: Print from Chrome – Computer.
- In the print window, look for a PDF destination, such as Save as PDF. Select it if offered. The exact name and availability depend on the browser, operating system, and venue’s computer configuration.
- Review the preview. If the page is awkwardly split or too long, use available settings—such as page range, orientation, margins, or scale—if the dialog provides them.
- Choose a permitted folder, save the file, and, if practical, check that it appears there and opens correctly.
If the computer offers only a physical printer, it cannot create a digital PDF through that destination. You can ask whether printing to paper is permitted and what it costs locally; a printer is not required when a PDF destination is available.

If you cannot find a PDF destination
The Chrome instructions explain the browser print workflow, but they do not establish which destinations a particular public computer provides. A library, school lab, or cyber café may use a different browser or restrict saving and printing. Ask the attendant whether saving a PDF is allowed and where it may be saved. Do not try to bypass venue restrictions; the Government of India’s 2011 cyber-café rules include precautions against tampering with system settings: Information Technology (Guidelines for Cyber Cafe) Rules, 2011.
Protect your privacy on a shared computer
Private browsing is not file cleanup
A private or incognito window can limit what is retained in the browser’s local history after you close that window. The NCERT/CIET student handbook describes private-window use and closing the session, as well as Firefox history clearing: Cyber Safety and Security (Student Handbook). It does not make the computer trustworthy, and it does not remove a PDF you downloaded.

Remove your copy and sign out
The Ministry of Tourism’s public-computer guidance advises deleting personal documents downloaded to a cyber-café desktop and logging out of accounts: Best Practices for Information Technology Security. If the venue permits, remove your downloaded PDF and any extra desktop copy, close the private window, and sign out of accounts before leaving. Deleting a visible copy cannot guarantee removal from administrator records, monitoring software, backups, or recovery tools.
Avoid sensitive pages and documents
Do not use a public computer for banking, government services, health information, or other sensitive browsing if you can avoid it. The National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal warns against sensitive browsing on public computers, cyber cafés, and free Wi-Fi: Online Safety Tips. A downloaded document may be exposed to other people who use or administer the computer.
