To save a webpage as an image, choose a screenshot or image-capture option in your web clipper—not Article, Markdown, or HTML clipping. Select visible area for what is on screen, full page for content below the fold, or region for a selected portion. The exact buttons, file format, and save location depend on the extension or note-taking app you use.
Choose the right capture before you save
- Visible area: Captures the part of the page currently shown in the browser window.
- Full page: Captures content below the fold as well as the visible portion. Some tools scroll through the page and stitch sections together.
- Region: Captures a selected area, if your tool offers it.
A screenshot is an image of the page’s appearance at capture time. Article, Markdown, HTML, PDF, and bookmark options are different kinds of saved content; choosing one does not necessarily produce an image file.

Save an image with the clipper you use
Because “Web Clipper” is not one specific product, use the steps for your extension or app. The controls and destination are product-specific.
TagSpaces Web Clipper
- Open the webpage and launch the TagSpaces Web Clipper.
- Choose Take Screenshot for the visible area. TagSpaces documents this action as saving the visible webpage area as a PNG file.
- For below-the-fold content, choose its full-page screenshot action. TagSpaces captures the page in viewport-sized steps and stitches them into one tall PNG.
- Open the saved image and check that it includes the content you intended to capture.
TagSpaces says it hides fixed and sticky elements after the first capture, then restores them after the run, to avoid repeating them in the stitched image. It also notes that long pages can take several seconds to capture. These behaviors describe TagSpaces, not every web clipper. See the TagSpaces Web Clipper documentation.
OneNote Web Clipper
- Open the webpage and launch the OneNote Web Clipper.
- Select Full Page or Region to capture a screenshot image.
- Choose the notebook location and add a note if you want one.
- Select Clip to save the capture to OneNote.
Do not select Article if you specifically need a screenshot: that option saves editable text and images instead. OneNote’s documented workflow saves the clip into a notebook rather than describing a local image-file export. See Microsoft’s OneNote Web Clipper guide.

If your clipper has no screenshot control
Use a browser screenshot extension that explicitly supports the capture scope you need. The Firefox Add-ons listing for Easy Screenshot describes portion, visual-viewport, and entire-page capture, with PNG, JPEG, AVIF, and WebP formats. It says entire-page capture scrolls and merges page sections, and that output resolution depends on screen resolution. Check the listing and the extension in your browser for current availability and controls before installing or relying on a particular option.
Check what was saved and where
After capturing, reopen the result. Confirm that it is an image, that it covers the intended area, and that the text and details are legible. Then check its destination: depending on the product, the result may be a local PNG file, an item in a notebook, or content saved to another workspace.

A clipped note is not necessarily a self-contained image archive. Obsidian Web Clipper leaves images linked to their web URLs by default; its help page documents a separate Download attachments for current file command. That is different from saving a screenshot image. See Obsidian’s web clipping help.
Why a clipped page may not look like a screenshot
- You chose Article or Markdown: These modes capture editable content rather than a raster image. Return to the clipper and choose a screenshot mode, if available.
- The image shows only the screen: You likely used visible-area capture. Choose full-page capture for content farther down the page.
- The output is in an app, not a folder: Some clippers save to a notebook, vault, workspace page, or database. Check the destination you selected in the clipper.
- Images in a note are missing offline: They may be remote links rather than downloaded attachments. Obsidian documents a separate attachment-download command; consult your app’s documentation for its equivalent.
- The full-page image takes a while or repeats page elements: Full-page methods may scroll and stitch captures. TagSpaces documents that it hides fixed and sticky elements after the first capture, but another tool may behave differently.
Other clippers work differently: Notion Web Clipper saves a page to a chosen workspace page or database and notes that websites may parse and format differently. Joplin’s Web Clipper describes screenshot and webpage clipping through its extension, which communicates with a service started by the Joplin desktop app. Check the relevant product guide when you need a specific destination or output format.

Which method should you use?
For a one-off image saved through a clipper, use its screenshot mode and confirm the destination. Choose visible-area, full-page, or region capture based on what must appear in the image. If the clipper only saves editable content, use a screenshot extension that supports the needed scope; for URL-based developer workflows, ScreenshotNeo is an API option.
