To save a webpage as one HTML file, install the SingleFile extension for your browser, open the page, wait until it has fully loaded, then click the SingleFile toolbar button. The extension packages page content and resources into a single file and normally saves it to your browser’s download folder.
Install SingleFile for your browser
Get SingleFile from the official extension store linked by the project. The project lists support for Chrome, Firefox desktop and mobile, Microsoft Edge, Safari, Vivaldi, Brave, Waterfox, Yandex Browser, and Opera. Store availability and installation steps vary by browser and platform, so use the project’s official links rather than installing an unofficial copy: SingleFile project README.

Save a page as one HTML file
- Open the webpage you want to keep.
- Wait until the page is fully loaded. Pages that load content gradually may need additional time before capture.
- Click the SingleFile icon in the browser toolbar. SingleFile processes the page and saves the result as an HTML file.
- Look in the browser’s configured download folder. The browser controls that folder; SingleFile uses it by default.
The resulting file is designed to contain the page and resources such as CSS, images, and fonts in one HTML document. SingleFile may also fetch resources present on the page even if they were not displayed or already cached.
Use other capture options
For a selection, a frame, or several open tabs, right-click the SingleFile button or the webpage and choose the relevant SingleFile context-menu action. The menu also includes annotation and auto-save actions. The exact items available can depend on the browser.

You can also configure a keyboard shortcut. The project documents Ctrl+Shift+Y as a customizable shortcut; change it through your browser’s extension shortcut settings. See the project README and SingleFile help and options for current controls.
What may not survive in the saved file
- Protected browser pages: Browser security prevents extensions from accessing some pages, including Chrome Web Store and Mozilla add-on pages.
- Canvas and video: Canvas images and video snapshots may be inaccessible to the extension, so they may be missing from the saved page.
- Interactive behavior: Folding headings, maps, carousels, and other interactive elements may not work offline. SingleFile removes scripts by default because scripts can change how a page renders and are not guaranteed to work offline. Changing options does not guarantee that the original behavior will be restored.
- Pages that are still loading: Content that appears after capture may be absent. Wait for the page to finish loading and try again.
If a capture is incomplete, check SingleFile’s options and help and its known issues. The project describes HTML as the default format and says it can be opened without requiring JavaScript.

Single-file saving is not professional web archiving
A self-contained HTML copy is useful for offline reading, sharing, or reference, but it is not a complete record of a website’s history or provenance. SingleFile’s FAQ explicitly says it is not a professional web-archiving tool. If you need an archival workflow for scholarly, legal, or preservation requirements, use a purpose-built approach; do not treat a SingleFile HTML file as proof that a page was preserved with archival-grade completeness.

Or skip the browser setup
If an image or PDF is what you need instead of offline HTML, ScreenshotNeo can capture a URL with one GET request. Its capture flow accepts cookie and consent banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before the shot; each of those steps can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, and failed loads are not billed, and cache hits cost nothing. Its MCP server gives AI agents tools to take screenshots, get page information, and capture PDFs.
