Use your browser’s built-in print-to-PDF option, then open the saved file and test the links that matter. Browsers provide ways to save webpages as PDFs, but their instructions do not guarantee that every link on every site will remain clickable in every PDF. Checking the actual file is the reliable final step.
Save a webpage as a PDF on a computer
Google Chrome
- Open the webpage and choose File > Print, or press Ctrl+P on Windows or Linux, or Command+P on Mac.
- In the print window, select the available PDF destination. Chrome’s print-preview help describes the Save as PDF destination; labels can vary with the system’s print dialog.
- Review the preview and settings, then choose Print or the dialog’s save control to create the PDF.
Google documents the print workflow, but does not promise that hyperlinks from every webpage will survive every output route. Google Chrome Help: Print from Chrome – Computer.

Mozilla Firefox
- Open the page, open the menu, and choose Print.
- Set Destination to Save to PDF.
- Adjust the page range, orientation, scale, margins, headers and footers, backgrounds, or original versus simplified format if needed.
- Inspect the preview and choose Print to save the file.
Firefox’s preview matters because, as Mozilla Support puts it, “Web pages can set themselves up to appear different on paper to how they look on screen, so don’t be surprised if this happens.” Mozilla Support: How to print web pages in Firefox.
Microsoft Edge
- Open the webpage and choose Print from the menu, or press Ctrl+P on Windows or Command+P on Mac.
- Choose the PDF destination available in the print dialog.
- Check the preview. Adjust scale, background graphics, headers and footers, or clutter-free output if available, then save the PDF.
Edge’s documented print controls do not guarantee link preservation for every page and destination. Microsoft Support: Print in Microsoft Edge.

Save a webpage as a PDF on a phone or tablet
Safari on iPhone
- Open the webpage in Safari and tap the page menu or Share button.
- Tap Markup, then tap Done.
- Choose Save File To and select where to save the PDF.
Apple’s guide also covers annotating the page. It does not state that every original webpage link will be interactive in every saved file. Apple Support: Annotate and save a webpage as a PDF in Safari on iPhone.
Chrome on Android
- Open the page in Chrome and tap More > Share > Print.
- Choose Save as PDF in the printer selector.
- Select the destination on your device and tap Print.
Google documents this Android workflow but does not promise every page’s links will be retained. Google Chrome Help: Print from Chrome – Android.

Chrome on iPhone or iPad
Google’s cited Chrome instructions for iPhone and iPad cover printing with AirPrint; they do not document a direct Save as PDF option. If you need a locally saved PDF, use Safari’s documented Share or page-menu, Markup, and Save File To workflow above. Google Chrome Help: Print from Chrome – iPhone and iPad.

Make the PDF readable and verify its links
- Use the browser’s built-in PDF destination where available; a generic printer driver may behave differently.
- Inspect the preview. Change scale, orientation, margins, or background settings if text is clipped, pages break awkwardly, or important visual details disappear.
- Save the file, open it in a PDF viewer, and click several links, especially those essential to the document.
- If a link is missing, try the browser’s own PDF destination or another browser’s documented built-in PDF workflow, save a new copy, and test it again.
Do not assume that seeing a link in the webpage or print preview means the saved PDF contains a working link. The cited browser documentation explains print and save controls, not a universal guarantee for every combination of site, browser, operating system, and PDF viewer.

Troubleshoot missing links or poor output
- A link is visible but does not open in the PDF: Check another link in the same file to see whether the issue is document-wide or limited to that link. Try saving through the browser’s built-in PDF destination or another documented browser workflow, then test the new file.
- Content is clipped, oddly paginated, or different from the screen: Reopen print preview and adjust scale, orientation, margins, or page range. Firefox also offers original or simplified output and background controls. Webpages can lay themselves out differently for print.
- Backgrounds or visual details are missing: Check the print dialog for a background-graphics setting and review the preview before saving.
- You are using Chrome on iPhone or iPad and cannot find Save as PDF: Google’s cited instructions cover AirPrint rather than a direct PDF-save control. Use Safari’s documented PDF workflow when you need to save a file locally.
PDF is not the same as an offline webpage archive
On Mac, Safari’s File > Save As options include Web Archive and Page Source. These are not paginated PDFs: Web Archive saves graphics, and its links work as long as destination pages remain available; Page Source saves HTML source.
