To keep a webpage’s dark background in a PDF, open the browser’s Print dialog, turn on its background-printing option, check the preview, then save as PDF. A dark browser theme alone does not make the webpage print with a dark background.
Why a dark webpage can turn white in a PDF
A browser’s dark theme changes browser elements such as the toolbar and settings; it does not necessarily change how a webpage is printed. Google’s Chrome documentation describes the appearance of browser pages and controls in dark mode, not a setting that forces web content backgrounds into PDFs: Browse in Dark mode or Dark theme.

Printing is a separate presentation of a webpage. The site may use print styling that changes or removes its screen background, and the print dialog may omit background graphics by default. Enabling background printing can preserve those graphics, but it cannot guarantee that every page will look exactly as it does on screen.

Open the webpage you want to save and open the browser’s Print dialog.

Find the background option in the print settings and enable it. Depending on the browser, it may be called Print backgrounds or Background graphics.

Inspect the print preview. Check that the background appears, the text is legible against it, and important content is not lost at page breaks.

Select the browser’s PDF destination—such as Save to PDF—and save the file.

If you need a readable document more than an exact screen replica, compare the preview with and without background graphics before saving. Dark backgrounds can use more ink if printed on paper, and a background that looks good on screen may reduce contrast in the PDF.
Microsoft Edge: include background graphics

Open the webpage and press Ctrl+P on Windows or Command+P on macOS.

Expand More settings.

Select Background graphics, then inspect the preview and save using the available PDF destination.

Microsoft recommends enabling Background graphics when the preview or output differs from the webpage. The setting includes webpage background graphics in print output; it does not promise an identical reproduction of every site’s screen layout. See Microsoft’s Edge print instructions.
Firefox: save to PDF and print backgrounds

Open the webpage’s Print dialog.

Set Destination to Save to PDF.

Under More settings, enable Print backgrounds.

Check the preview and save the PDF.
Firefox’s Simplified format disables the Print backgrounds option. If you need the page’s dark background, turn off Simplified format and check the preview again. Mozilla also notes that webpages can be designed to look different on paper than on screen. See How to print web pages in Firefox.
Check the PDF before relying on it

Background: Confirm the dark area appears in the preview and in the saved PDF.

Contrast: Make sure text, links, and controls remain visible against the background.

Page breaks: Review headings, images, tables, and other content near page boundaries.

Print styling: If the page still looks white or has a different layout, the website may provide print-specific styling. The browser’s background option cannot necessarily override how the site formats its print view.
