To save a place in Google Maps, open its place details, select Save, then choose an existing list or create a new one. Your saved places are private by default; share a list only when you want other people to view or collaborate on it.
How do I save a place in Google Maps?
Saving a place is different from downloading an offline map area or adding a place to Maps. Save a place to remember it in a list; use offline maps when you need map data without an internet connection. Google’s help explains the distinction in its desktop save-place instructions.

On a computer
- Open Google Maps and sign in to the Google Account where you want to keep the place.
- Search for the business or place, or click it on the map.
- Click Save, then choose a list.
- To find it later, open Saved.
Google says saved places are visible only to you unless you create and share a list. Google may share combined, anonymous information about users’ saved places, but that does not make your individual private list public. If you save a place from a map embedded on another website, Google says the saved item may appear with a star and the website name in Maps.

How do I create a list in Google Maps?
You can make a list while saving a place, or create the list first and add places afterward. Choose the first route when you are already looking at a place; create the list first when you want to set up a category—such as “Weekend ideas”—before filling it.

Can I share a Google Maps list?
Yes. Google Maps lets you share a list by link and, where available, invite people to collaborate. Choose the intended viewing and editing settings before sending the link: Google’s desktop instructions distinguish a viewable link from settings that control who can find a list, while Android and iOS instructions cover sharing and collaborator invitations.
People who can view a shared list may also see participants’ names and profile pictures, as well as who added or edited places and notes. Google’s desktop help says starred places cannot be shared. You can also follow or save another person’s list; its places may then appear in your saved lists and on your main map unless you hide them.

Know the documented list limit
Google’s desktop save-place help states a limit of 3,000 entries per saved list and warns that lists with more entries may not display properly. Google does not state a publication date for this limit on the help page, so check the current instructions if your list is approaching that size.
Can Google Maps save places from screenshots?
Google documents a Screenshot to save feature for iPhone and iPad in certain countries, not as a universal Maps feature. It can identify place names in screenshots so you can review matches and save them to a list. Google says it uses Gemini and is off until enabled.
Automatic scanning requires full photo access. Google also offers manual screenshot selection as an alternative; its instructions say users can select up to 50 screenshots for review. Availability, permissions, and limits may change, so check the Google Maps screenshot-saving instructions and the controls shown on your device.
