To turn a concert setlist into a playlist, create a new playlist, find each song in the service catalog, confirm the correct artist and recording, and add tracks in the order they were performed. Finish by checking the playlist against the original setlist, including the encore, and handle unavailable or duplicate recordings before sharing it.
Plan the playlist before opening the music app
A few minutes of preparation prevents most setlist errors. Keep the concert setlist visible while you work, whether it is a printed list, a venue handout, or a published running order. Decide whether the playlist should represent only the main set or the complete show. If the source lists an encore separately, keep that separation in your notes and place those songs at the end of the playlist.

Choose a useful name
Use a name that identifies the artist, city, venue, and date. A format such as Artist — City — Venue — 2026-10-18 is easy to recognize later. If you expect to make several versions, add a qualifier such as full show, main set, or encore included. Put unusual details in the description rather than making the title unwieldy.
Decide which recording belongs in each slot
A catalog search can return several tracks with the same or nearly identical title. Before adding a result, check the artist name and inspect the release information. Decide whether the setlist calls for the studio recording, a live version, a remix, a deluxe-edition track, or a cover. Featured artists and punctuation can also distinguish two otherwise similar entries.

Prepare for songs that are not available
Catalogs differ by country, licensing agreement, and release. If the exact recording does not appear, search for another release by the same artist before giving up. An alternate studio or live release may be a reasonable substitute, but it should not be mistaken for the recording actually performed. If no suitable version is available, leave the position identifiable in the description with wording such as Track unavailable in this region.
Save the setlist as a Spotify playlist
Spotify on a phone or tablet
- Open Spotify and tap Create (+).
- Select Playlist.
- Enter the concert-based name and tap Create.
- Open the new playlist and tap Add to this playlist, or locate a song first, open its three-dot menu, choose Add to Playlist, select the setlist playlist, and tap Done.
- Repeat the search and add process for every song, following the running order rather than adding tracks alphabetically or by release date.
Adding one track at a time makes the intended sequence obvious. If you add several songs from search results in one session, immediately review the playlist afterward because the order in which selections are committed may not match the concert order.
Spotify in the desktop app or web player
- Open Your Library and click Create (+).
- Choose Playlist.
- Edit the playlist name and any details, then click SAVE.
- Search for the first setlist song. Right-click the track, or open its three-dot menu, choose Add to Playlist, and select the concert playlist.
- Continue through the setlist. On a computer, you can also drag tracks into the playlist when the interface offers that action.
Desktop Spotify documents drag-and-drop reordering. If a song was added out of sequence, open the playlist, drag it to the correct position, and then inspect the tracks immediately before and after it for accidental shifts.

Reorder on Spotify mobile
Spotify documents mobile and tablet drag reordering as a Premium-only function. If the drag handles are unavailable on your account, add tracks in performance order from the start or use Spotify’s desktop interface to arrange the finished list. Do not assume that a phone view showing the songs in search order represents the concert sequence.

Check the Spotify result
- Open the completed playlist and compare every title with the source setlist.
- Confirm that live recordings, remixes, covers, and deluxe versions are intentional.
- Remove duplicate entries created by adding the same song twice.
- Verify that the final tracks are the encore, if the concert had one.
- Read the playlist description for notes about substitutions or missing songs.
Save the setlist as an Apple Music playlist
Apple Music on iPhone or Android
- Open Library.
- Tap New Playlist, then choose Create New Playlist.
- Enter the concert name.
- Tap Add Songs and select the setlist tracks.
- Tap Save.
For exact sequencing, select songs in running order when possible, then open the saved playlist and verify the final arrangement. If a group selection produces a different order than your notes, add or rearrange the affected tracks before treating the playlist as complete.
Apple Music on iPad
Scroll to the bottom of the sidebar and tap New Playlist. Name the playlist, add the setlist songs, and inspect the result against the concert order. The iPad layout places playlist creation in the sidebar rather than the same Library control used on a phone.
Apple Music on Mac
- In Apple Music, choose File > New > Playlist.
- Name the playlist.
- Find each setlist song and drag it into the playlist.
- Continue dragging tracks in the order they were played, or move any out-of-sequence item before leaving the playlist.
The Mac workflow is useful when a long setlist needs careful visual checking. Keep the source list beside the Apple Music window and verify the transition from the main set to the encore before you finish.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

- Open Playlists in the sidebar.
- Click Add and choose New Playlist.
- Enter the playlist name.
- Drag tracks into the playlist in performance order.
After dragging, scroll through the entire list rather than checking only the first few songs. A duplicate near the end or an omitted encore track is easy to miss in a long show.

Apple Music on the web
- At
music.apple.com, find a setlist song. - Open the song’s More menu.
- Choose Add to Playlist > New Playlist.
- Rename the new playlist.
- Use the same menu to add additional songs, then drag items as needed to match the running order.
The web player is convenient when you are working on a computer without the desktop app. Because controls can vary with the current interface, confirm that the playlist name and complete track count are visible before closing the tab.
Keep the exact order the band played
Build from the setlist top to bottom
Use the source list as a numbered sequence. Search for the first song, add it, and move to the next. This method prevents a familiar hit from being added early simply because it appeared first in search results. Keep instrumental intros, interludes, and short transition recordings if they appear as separate entries in the source.
Treat medleys carefully
A medley may appear as one catalog track, several separate songs, or a live recording with a different title. If the service has only separate tracks, add them in the order heard and note in the description that they represent one medley. If a single live track contains the entire medley, do not add the component studio songs as well unless you deliberately want both versions.

Place the encore last
Do not let an encore song blend into the main set just because it is listed on the same page. Add all regular-set songs first, then the encore in its own order. This preserves the shape of the performance and makes the playlist easier to compare with the original setlist.

Account for pauses without inventing tracks
A playlist can reproduce song order, not every spoken introduction, pause, costume change, or audience interaction. Do not insert unrelated tracks to represent silence. If a long break matters to your record of the show, describe it in the playlist notes rather than altering the music sequence.

The search returns the wrong artist
Search the artist first, then enter the exact song title. Open the result’s artist and album information before adding it. This two-stage search reduces the chance of selecting a cover, a similarly named group, or a soundtrack recording by another performer.
Several recordings have the same title
Compare album art, release name, duration, and version labels. A track marked live, acoustic, radio edit, remix, remaster, or featuring another artist may not be the one performed. If the setlist does not identify a version, choose the artist’s standard release and record your assumption in the description when it could confuse another listener.
A song is missing from the catalog
Search the artist’s other releases, including a single, compilation, deluxe edition, or official live album. Availability can differ by region, so a result seen by another listener may not appear in your account. If no acceptable substitute exists, keep the playlist’s sequence understandable by noting the gap instead of silently moving later songs upward.

The same song appears twice
Duplicates often come from adding both a studio and live version, selecting a track twice, or treating a medley component as an additional performance. Compare each duplicate with the source setlist. Keep both only when the band genuinely played the song twice or the two recordings represent distinct moments.
A control is missing
Interface names and account features can change. Check whether you are using the mobile, tablet, desktop, Windows, Mac, or web version described in the relevant procedure. Spotify separates mobile/tablet and desktop controls, and its mobile drag-reordering behavior depends on Premium status. Apple Music places playlist creation in different locations on each device family. If a label has moved, look for the current playlist or three-dot menu rather than assuming the feature has been removed.

Neither service’s official playlist instructions describe a dedicated setlist importer. The dependable method is still manual identification, addition, and verification. A transfer tool may be useful if a playlist already exists on one service, but its matching accuracy and current support should be checked separately rather than assumed.
A final quality-control pass
- Place the original setlist beside the finished playlist.
- Count the source entries and compare that count with the playlist, allowing for any documented unavailable track.
- Read every artist and title, not just the first word of each line.
- Confirm the recording version for songs with live, remix, cover, acoustic, or deluxe alternatives.
- Check featured artists and spelling so the selected track is the intended catalog item.
- Verify the running order from the opening song through the final encore.
- Look for duplicate additions and decide whether each is intentional.
- Play the first transition, one middle transition, and the move into the encore to catch obvious ordering mistakes.
- Record substitutions or unavailable songs in the playlist description.
- Review the playlist’s sharing or collaboration settings before sending it to other concertgoers.
Catalog availability, plan limits, and interface labels can change by region and over time. If a control described here is absent, consult the current Spotify or Apple Music help material for your device and account, then repeat the verification pass after making changes.
