A full-page screenshot and a continuous one-page PDF are different outputs. The screenshot route supports full-page capture; the standard PDF route prints and paginates the page.

Save the screenshot image, then convert it to PDF
First capture the URL through Browserless’s REST /screenshot endpoint. The example below follows Browserless’s documented request shape and saves the response as a PNG. Replace the token and URL, and use the endpoint host configured for your deployment if it differs from the documented SFO example.

The response is an image file. Convert screenshot.png using a separate image-to-PDF tool of your choice. Browserless’s screenshot documentation does not specify a converter or a Browserless conversion command, so the conversion step is intentionally tool-neutral. Keep the original image as your source if you may need to change the PDF later.
Capture details that affect the result
The screenshot API documents viewport and full-page capture, image format, quality, clipping, and waiting/configuration options. Use fullPage: true when the capture should extend beyond the initially visible viewport; configure waits when the page needs time to finish rendering. A full-page capture can be much taller than a normal viewport image, which affects the resulting PDF’s page layout when converted. Consult the endpoint documentation for the available settings.

Use Browserless /pdf for a printable webpage PDF
If preserving screenshot pixels is not required, send the URL or HTML to /pdf and save its PDF response. This route uses Chrome’s print engine rather than taking an image and placing it in a PDF. The output can retain selectable text, but print stylesheets and pagination may make it look different from the browser’s screen layout.
For an exact request body, accepted options, and response behavior, use Browserless’s PDF API documentation. As with the screenshot route, supply the API token in the token query parameter and use your deployment’s configured endpoint host.

Print styles and backgrounds
Browserless’s BAP PDF guidance says PDF generation runs through Chrome’s print pipeline and honors print stylesheets. Set printBackground: true when page background colors or images should appear. If you need the screen layout rather than print CSS, the guide suggests emulating screen media. It also shows waitForFonts: true in an example. These are PDF-generation considerations; they do not change the image response from /screenshot. See Browserless screenshots and PDFs with BAP.
Tags and metadata
The PDF API documentation describes an option to embed structure tags, with the result depending on the source markup; Browserless cautions that this does not certify the file as PDF/UA. It also says PDF metadata fields such as title and author are not directly exposed by the underlying Puppeteer/Chrome print interface and describes post-processing as a workaround. Check the PDF API documentation if accessibility structure or metadata is a requirement.

- The saved file is an image, not a PDF: That is the documented
/screenshotbehavior. Convert the image with a separate tool, or use/pdfif you need a print-rendered PDF. - The request is rejected for authentication: Check that the account token is present in the
tokenquery parameter and that you are using the correct Browserless deployment host. - The screenshot is missing content below the fold: Set
fullPage: truein the screenshot options. Content that loads only after a delay may also need an appropriate wait setting. - The PDF looks different from the browser: The
/pdfroute follows Chrome’s print pipeline and print stylesheets. Use screen media emulation when screen styling is the goal, or capture with/screenshotand convert the image if pixel appearance matters more than selectable text. - PDF backgrounds are absent: For the BAP PDF flow, Browserless documents
printBackground: trueto include page backgrounds. - You expected one long PDF page: The documented
/pdfroute does not produce a continuous long-page PDF. Use a custom/functionflow for that requirement.
Performance, reliability, and cost considerations
Both REST workflows require an API token. The request examples and endpoint behavior here summarize Browserless documentation; no capture or conversion was executed for this guide. A full-page image may be large, and converting it into a PDF does not make its contents selectable. Conversely, a print-rendered PDF can be more useful for text search and printing, but print CSS and page breaks can change its appearance. Choose the output based on which property matters most.
