1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesChange an alert sound in the alert provider’s settings for the specific event—such as a follow, subscription, or donation—then save and test it. In Streamlabs, open Alert Box settings, select the event, find its Sound control, choose a library sound, upload an audio file you have rights to use, or enter an audio URL. If you use OBS and the sound is still missing, check the alert source’s audio routing separately.
Change an alert sound in Streamlabs
Streamlabs lets you edit alert sounds from its dashboard or Streamlabs Desktop. The exact placement of controls can shift, so look for the event type and its Sound setting.

- Open your Alert Box settings. In the Streamlabs dashboard, go to the Alert Box settings. In Streamlabs Desktop, select or edit the Alert Box source.
- Choose the event. Select the alert type you want to change, such as a follow, subscription, or donation. Sounds are set per event, so changing one does not necessarily change the others.
- Find Sound and choose an audio source. Select a sound from the gallery, upload an audio file you are permitted to use, or provide an audio URL if that option is available.
- Save the change. In the dashboard, save the settings before leaving. In Streamlabs Desktop, finish with the save or Done control.
- Repeat for other events and test. Trigger a test alert for each event you changed, before going live.
Streamlabs’ sound gallery includes free and premium sounds; its documentation associates premium sounds with Streamlabs Ultra. Availability and terms can change, so check the current gallery rather than assuming a particular sound is included.

Use a custom sound safely
If you upload a clip, use audio you have the rights to use. A clip being available online does not by itself establish that you may use it in a stream. Streamlabs supports user uploads and, where offered, audio URLs; confirm the file or URL works in the alert editor, then test it in your stream setup.

Set up alerts with StreamElements
StreamElements has its own alert editor. Open the Elements Editor, select the alert you want to customize, and choose the sound file used by that alert. Its default alert box can also be customized for sound and visual or timing properties. If the widget is brought into OBS as a browser source, audio routing in OBS may need its own adjustment.
Check that OBS can play the alert audio
Choosing a sound in the provider’s editor and routing that sound through OBS are separate steps. If the alert animation appears but the sound is absent, inspect the alert source’s audio controls and the relevant track or monitoring settings.

- The old sound still plays: Make sure you edited the correct event type, saved the change, and tested that same event. A follow sound setting does not necessarily affect subscriptions or donations.
- The alert appears but is silent in OBS: Check the alert source’s audio control and the track routing or monitoring settings. For a StreamElements browser source, verify the OBS audio-control and monitoring options described above.
- The sound does not load: Recheck the selected library item, uploaded file, or audio URL in the provider’s editor, then save and test again.
- You cannot find a menu exactly as described: Provider interfaces change. Look for the Alert Box or alert editor, select the event, and locate the Sound control; consult the provider’s current help page if labels differ.
