You can run XSplit Broadcaster on a Windows VPS and send its output to YouTube Live, but a “Windows VPS” label alone does not guarantee the graphics support, encoding capability, or reliable unattended playback XSplit needs. Check the actual machine, test your loop and recovery behavior, and verify the YouTube broadcast before relying on it.
Can you run XSplit Broadcaster on a Windows VPS?
Potentially. XSplit Broadcaster is Windows software with published hardware requirements, including a GeForce- or Radeon-class graphics card with DirectX 10.1 or better. Those requirements are vendor-published baselines, not certification that a virtual machine will work. Ask the VPS provider whether its specific Windows plan exposes compatible graphics acceleration or encoding to the guest OS, then test the exact XSplit version and YouTube output.

XSplit lists Windows 10 64-bit, 8 GB RAM, a 2nd-generation Core i5 or equivalent, and 250 MB of available storage as minimum specifications. It recommends a 2nd-generation Core i7 equivalent and at least 5 Mbps upload for HD; 500 kbps is listed as the minimum upload speed for its lowest streaming settings. - Confirm the provider offers a Windows image supported by the current XSplit installer. XSplit’s cited product page specifies Windows 10 64-bit; it does not certify every Windows Server image or VPS configuration.
- Ask whether the plan exposes a compatible GPU or virtual graphics/encoding device. A plan described as a Windows VPS does not establish this.
- Check sustained upload capacity for your chosen resolution and bitrate, with additional headroom for network overhead.
- Confirm CPU, memory, storage, data transfer, reboot controls, and remote-console access, and whether you can test before committing to a long run.
Set up XSplit and connect it to YouTube Live
- Enable YouTube Live in advance. Enable live streaming on the channel before your planned broadcast. XSplit’s YouTube setup guide says first-time activation approval can take up to 24 hours. Allow for that wait rather than scheduling a launch at the last minute.
- Install and sign in to XSplit Broadcaster. Use an OS image compatible with the current installer and confirm that the VPS can run the application in the way your setup requires.
- Authorize the YouTube output. In Broadcaster, open the Broadcast menu and create or select the YouTube output. Authorize the YouTube account, then enter the broadcast details, including title, description, tags, and privacy setting.
- Build the loop scene. Add the video or other media source you intend to broadcast, configure its loop behavior if available, and set audio levels. Do not assume every media source or playlist loops forever: the XSplit product page mentions looping multiple images or videos for a BRB screen, but does not establish continuous looping behavior for every source.
- Set and check output quality. Choose a resolution and frame rate your VPS can encode and upload continuously. Check the selected encoder, CPU/GPU load, audio, and YouTube stream health during a test. XSplit’s published upload figures are baselines, not a guarantee of stable performance on your plan.
- Start a test broadcast. Start the YouTube output and confirm that the stream appears as intended in YouTube Live Control Room. Check picture, sound, loop transitions, and stream health before leaving it unattended. XSplit’s setup guide documents the YouTube output workflow; it does not establish a guaranteed continuous playlist loop.

Test unattended playback and recovery
A successful start does not prove that a loop will run indefinitely or resume after an interruption. The cited XSplit material does not establish automatic reconnection or recovery for every XSplit version, media source, VPS, or YouTube disconnect. Test your actual configuration before depending on it.
- Run the loop long enough to observe multiple transitions and confirm that video and audio continue as intended.
- Reboot the VPS and check whether you can sign in, reopen XSplit, restore the scene, and restart the YouTube output. Do not assume the application or broadcast starts automatically after a reboot.
- Test a network interruption and an XSplit restart. Note what stops and what requires manual action.
- Check what happens when YouTube disconnects the output. Verify whether the stream can be restarted and whether the intended live event remains usable.
- Record the recovery steps and arrange monitoring or a person who can intervene if the stream is important. Do not describe the setup as resilient until you have verified its failure behavior.
Will YouTube save a long live stream?
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. If preserving a complete recording matters, keep the broadcast below 12 hours or make a local recording. YouTube also notes that DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable for very long streams. You remain responsible for the rights to everything in the broadcast, including relevant music rights. YouTube’s live terms require live content to comply with its Community Guidelines, and its monetization policies apply to livestreams as well as other channel content. YouTube clarified and renamed its “repetitious content” policy to “inauthentic content” on July 15, 2025; its policy emphasizes original, authentic content rather than repetitive or mass-produced material. A looped stream is not automatically eligible for monetization, and no setup can guarantee a channel or stream will qualify.
- Use footage, music, and other material you created or have permission to stream.
- Check the rights and license terms for every element, including background music and visuals.
- Do not treat continuous playback, stream duration, or technical compliance as proof that content meets monetization rules.
