Yes. One self-hosted datarhei Restreamer instance can publish the same source to two YouTube channels by using two separate publication services. Give each service that channel’s own YouTube RTMP server URL and unique stream key; do not reuse one channel’s key for both. Then start both services and confirm that each YouTube Live event receives its own preview.
This is a configuration path supported by Restreamer’s documentation, not a claim that every server can handle two simultaneous outputs. The documentation does not specify a minimum server size, so validate the setup on your Restreamer version and host before relying on it for a scheduled broadcast.

What you need before configuring Restreamer
- A working Restreamer instance. Its Quick Start documents a Docker deployment.
- Two distinct YouTube channels that are eligible to go live. Each channel must be verified and have live streaming enabled. YouTube says first-time enablement can take at least 24 hours after the request, so do not leave it until broadcast day. See YouTube’s guidance on streaming across platforms.
- A separate YouTube Live event or destination for each channel, with that channel’s RTMP server URL and unique stream key available.
- Enough outbound bandwidth for both outputs, plus headroom for normal network variation.
In this setup, “two channels” means two separate YouTube destinations receiving the same Restreamer source. The Restreamer publication-services manual allows any number of publication services; its YouTube guide explains the destination details. Neither guide provides a side-by-side walkthrough specifically for two YouTube channels, so labels and screen positions may differ by Restreamer version.

- Make sure both channels can go live. In each channel, complete YouTube’s verification and live-stream enablement requirements. If live streaming is being enabled for the first time, allow at least 24 hours after requesting it.
- Create or identify a YouTube Live event for each channel. In YouTube Live, obtain the RTMP server URL and stream key for the first channel, then do the same for the second. Keep these details separate and private. The key is a credential that can let someone broadcast to that channel.
- Add the first publication service in Restreamer. Open Restreamer’s publication-services configuration, create a service for the first YouTube destination, and enter the matching RTMP URL and stream key. The official Restreamer YouTube guide describes entering a valid YouTube streaming ID as the destination key.
- Add a second publication service. Create another service for the second YouTube destination. Enter that channel’s own RTMP URL and key, not the first channel’s credentials. A separate service keeps the destinations distinct while they use the same source.
- Start both services and check both events. Start the publication services in Restreamer. Open each channel’s YouTube Live event separately and wait a few seconds for its preview to appear. Confirm both previews before treating the setup as ready.
- Check stream health during the broadcast. Monitor YouTube’s Stream health for each event and watch the Restreamer host’s resource use and outbound network traffic. A healthy preview on one channel does not confirm that the second output is healthy.
Plan bandwidth for two outputs
Each destination adds outbound traffic. Estimate the combined target bitrates, then leave upload headroom. YouTube’s example uses one stream at 6 Mbps and another at 4 Mbps: 10 Mbps combined, for which its recommended upload headroom of 1.5–2 times the total works out to 15–20 Mbps. That is an example, not a universal bitrate prescription or a guarantee that a particular Restreamer host can sustain the outputs. YouTube notes that sufficient internet upload speed is critical for high-quality simulstreaming.

Test with the actual source, host, and network conditions you expect to use. The YouTube bitrate example addresses upload capacity; it does not establish CPU, memory, encoding, or server-network requirements for two Restreamer publications. The reviewed Restreamer documentation does not give a universal two-output server size.

These figures describe the documented publication handoff method, not end-to-end latency for viewers watching on YouTube. Select a protocol compatible with your source and workflow; the figures alone do not promise a particular viewer experience.
Deploy and secure the Restreamer host
Restreamer is self-hosted software. Its official project repository and Quick Start provide deployment information; the Quick Start documents Docker and cautions operators to use a secure, unique password. It also says public port forwarding is needed for full functionality. Follow the current setup guide for your version and network, and avoid casually exposing management interfaces to the public internet.

A remote server or VPS is one possible place to run a persistent self-hosted instance, but it is optional. Check the host’s outbound bandwidth and capacity against your actual two-stream workload; no provider or minimum server size is established by the documentation cited here.

If YouTube DVR archiving matters, end the stream through YouTube first, then stop or interrupt the Restreamer output. Restreamer’s YouTube guide warns that interrupting Restreamer mid-stream may prevent YouTube from saving the stream to its DVR archive.

Troubleshooting two-channel broadcasts
- One channel shows a preview, but the other does not: Check that the second publication service is started and that its RTMP URL and unique key belong to the second channel’s event. Confirm that event is live-enabled and inspect its YouTube Stream health separately.
- YouTube rejects the stream key or receives no signal: Recheck the destination details in that service. A key copied from the other channel is not a substitute; each channel has its own unique streaming ID.
- Both previews appear, but one or both streams become unstable: Compare the combined target bitrate with measured upload capacity and leave headroom. Check YouTube Stream health and the Restreamer host’s outbound traffic and resource use. A bandwidth calculation does not rule out host capacity limits.
- The first live broadcast cannot start immediately after enabling streaming: YouTube says first-time live enablement may take at least 24 hours after the request. Enable it well before the planned event.
- The stream ends but the DVR archive is missing: If the stream was cut off by stopping Restreamer first, that may have interrupted YouTube’s archive handling. For future broadcasts where the replay matters, end the stream on YouTube before stopping Restreamer.
- The management interface is exposed or the deployment is not reachable as expected: Revisit the current Quick Start and network setup, use a secure unique password, and configure only the port forwarding needed for your deployment. Do not expose management access casually.
