You can run two YouTube streams from one Mac mini by sending two separate encoder outputs to two separate YouTube Live events. Whether a particular Mac mini can encode both continuously at your chosen settings is not established by Apple’s specifications or the YouTube guidance cited here: validate your exact hardware, software, network, and stream settings in a sustained simultaneous test before relying on it unattended.
What you need to run two streams
Each broadcast needs its own YouTube Live event and corresponding encoder destination. Your encoder setup must produce both outputs at the same time, either through two encoder instances or a supported multi-output arrangement. The available official documentation does not verify a specific macOS app or plugin for this dual-output workflow, so confirm that the software you choose supports it rather than assuming it does.

- A Mac mini with a known model, memory configuration, and macOS version.
- Encoder software that can deliver two outputs concurrently.
- Two YouTube Live events, each with its own stream URL and stream key.
- An upload connection with enough sustained capacity for both streams and headroom.
- A plan to monitor and recover each output if the encoder, Mac, network, or YouTube connection stops.
Set up two YouTube Live events
- Enable live streaming early. If this is the first time the channel is going live, YouTube says activation may take up to 24 hours. Do not leave it until launch day. See YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
- Create or schedule two events. In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, create one event for each stream. Keep the events distinct so each encoder output is routed to the intended broadcast.
- Record each destination separately. For each event, note its stream URL and key, then map that pair to the matching encoder output. Avoid swapping keys between events.
- Protect the keys. Treat stream keys as credentials. Do not show them in screenshots, put them in public instructions, or leave them in shared configuration files. Restrict access to wherever the encoder stores them.
Choose settings for each output
Use YouTube’s current encoder settings, bitrate, and resolution guidance to select settings for each event. YouTube lists RTMP/RTMPS ingest; H.264, H.265 (HEVC), or AV1 video; frame rates up to 60 fps; constant bitrate (CBR) encoding; and a recommended two-second keyframe interval that should not exceed four seconds. YouTube recommends RTMPS where supported.
Choose bitrate using the table for the codec, resolution, and frame rate you actually intend to send. For scale, YouTube’s H.264 recommendations include 10 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps and 17 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps. Those figures apply to the specified H.264 settings; do not treat them as universal values for other codecs or frame rates.

Set the two outputs independently. If they use different resolutions, frame rates, or codecs, calculate the required bitrate for each rather than applying one setting to both by default. Keep audio and motion representative of the actual programs when testing, since a static test image may not reflect the workload or bitrate needs of moving content.
Calculate upload speed for both streams
Add the target video bitrates for the two outputs, then plan upload capacity with extra headroom. YouTube’s simulstream guidance gives this example: a 6 Mbps stream plus a 4 Mbps stream makes a 10 Mbps combined target; YouTube suggests aiming for 1.5–2 times that total, or 15–20 Mbps upload speed, to support stability, especially on a shared connection.

Can a Mac mini handle both streams?
Apple’s specifications for the Mac mini (2024) list M4 and M4 Pro variants and a hardware video encode engine. That confirms the machine includes hardware encoding capability; it does not specify how many real-time streams it can encode concurrently or promise continuous 24/7 operation.

- UP TO 16 HOURS OF BATTERY LIFE — MacBook Neo delivers all day battery life, so you can power through from early morning classes to late night study sessions without worrying about plugging in.
- A VIBRANT 13-INCH DISPLAY* — The gorgeous Liquid Retina display on MacBook Neo supports 1 billion colors, so photos and videos pop and text is crisp for easy reading.
Capacity depends on the exact workload: resolution, frame rate, codec, whether the software performs one or two encoding passes, scene complexity and overlays, audio processing, other applications, and the network and power environment. A hardware encode engine alone is not evidence that two outputs will remain stable at any particular quality. No two-stream benchmark or continuous-run test for a specific Mac mini configuration is established by the cited sources.
Before selecting a configuration, write down the model and memory, macOS version, encoder software, intended settings for each stream, and the way the software creates its outputs. The meaningful performance evidence is a simultaneous test using that complete setup, not a specification-sheet inference.

Test both streams before leaving them unattended
- Send both outputs at once. Use the actual encoder arrangement, event destinations, and settings you intend to keep in production.
- Use representative content. Test motion and audio similar to the real broadcast, and connect the peripherals and run the other applications you expect to use.
- Run an extended burn-in. Keep both outputs active long enough to expose sustained-load or intermittent problems. There is no universal test duration established by the cited sources; choose a period appropriate to your risk and schedule.
- Monitor the Mac and YouTube. Watch encoder load, dropped frames, temperature, and stream health or warning messages. YouTube recommends testing with representative audio and movement and monitoring stream health during the event.
- Confirm upload headroom under load. Check that the connection sustains both target bitrates while accounting for shared-network use, not only in an idle speed test.
- Practice recovery. Decide how you will notice a stopped output, restart its encoder or the Mac, restore network access, and bring the correct event back online without exposing either stream key.
Common problems and what to check
- Only one stream appears live: Check that the encoder software supports two concurrent outputs and that both are enabled. Verify each output is mapped to its own event and destination.
- An event receives the wrong output: Compare the event’s stream URL and key with the encoder destination assigned to it. Correct the mapping securely; do not paste keys into public troubleshooting messages.
- Dropped frames or unstable stream health: Check the combined bitrate against sustained upload capacity, shared-network traffic, and the encoder’s behavior under simultaneous load. Review YouTube’s stream health indicators and messages.
- The Mac struggles under load: Reduce the demands of one or both outputs and retest, or reconsider the software and hardware configuration. Apple’s hardware-encoder specification does not establish a safe dual-stream setting.
- You cannot start the first event: If live streaming has not previously been enabled for the channel, allow for YouTube’s stated activation time of up to 24 hours.
- A stream stops while unattended: Use a monitoring and restart plan. The cited YouTube sources do not define a complete automatic recovery design for a Mac mini encoder setup.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you do not want a Mac mini and home connection to stay on, StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. StreamNeo loops the video in the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. It supports the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
