You can use Spotify’s Basic Pitch demo in a browser to turn a short audio performance into a MIDI file without installing Basic Pitch locally. Record or upload audio, wait for processing, download the MIDI, then open it in a digital audio workstation (DAW) to review and refine the transcription.

Import the MIDI into your DAW to inspect the notes and make corrections. Spotify’s demo instructs users to “Download the MIDI file to fine tune and make corrections in your favorite digital audio workstation.”

Spotify Engineering described the demo as working in a browser without downloading anything. That means no separate Basic Pitch installation is required for this hosted workflow; it does not establish that every browser or browser version is supported.
Choose audio that gives the model a clear signal
Basic Pitch is instrument-agnostic and can transcribe polyphonic audio, including pitch bends, but Spotify says it works best with one instrument at a time. The demo likewise asks users to record or upload a single instrument. Start with a clean, exposed performance from one instrument: a dense mix with several instruments is harder to interpret and may produce less useful notes.

The Python project documentation lists MP3, OGG, WAV, FLAC, and M4A as compatible formats through its audio-loading stack. It also says stereo audio is downmixed to mono and input is resampled to 22050 Hz before processing. Those are library-level details, not a complete format specification for the live web demo: its upload prompt shows WAV and MP3 examples but does not establish an exhaustive browser-upload list.

What the MIDI gives you—and what still needs editing
The output is a MIDI transcription, not a finished, verified arrangement. Open it in a DAW to listen alongside the original audio and correct any notes or timing that do not match the performance. Spotify specifically points users to a DAW for fine tuning; the demo does not promise that every detected note will be correct.

A MIDI keyboard controller is optional if you want to play or audition parts while editing. It is not needed to run the browser converter.

Spotify’s project also offers Python and TypeScript implementations. The browser demo is the simpler route for an individual conversion; local use is aimed at people who want to run or integrate the library in their own workflow. The documentation describes Python command-line and library output, while the TypeScript sibling is browser-oriented. The available documentation does not establish that either deployment route is more accurate.

The sources do not specify browser-by-browser compatibility, maximum upload size, or how long uploaded audio is retained. They also do not provide a privacy-policy basis for claims about storage or deletion, so check Spotify’s current terms and privacy information if those details matter for your audio.
