Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →You can run multiple YouTube livestreams from one Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) virtual machine by running one encoder process per channel, each with that channel’s stream URL and private stream key. There is no reliable universal channel count: the limit depends on the VM’s available CPU, outbound network capacity, encoder settings, and workload. A process restart policy can help after an encoder crashes, but it cannot guarantee uninterrupted service or prevent OCI capacity limits, reclamation, host outages, or YouTube ingest interruptions.
How the setup works
The VM stays running in OCI and hosts a separate encoder process for every YouTube channel. Each process sends one video feed to the corresponding channel’s YouTube ingest endpoint. The processes can use the same source video if that is your intent, but each channel needs its own configured stream destination and private key.

Three limits need separate attention: encoder CPU and memory, network throughput for all outgoing feeds, and YouTube’s per-stream ingest settings. YouTube’s published bitrates are recommendations for each feed, not OCI performance benchmarks. The cited official documentation does not establish how many channels any particular VM shape can encode.
Check OCI capacity before choosing a VM
Oracle’s Always Free Resources documentation, accessed October 3, 2026, describes Always Free capacity equivalent to 2 OCPUs and 12 GB of memory for eligible tenancies, alongside 1,500 OCPU-hours and 9,000 GB-hours per month. It also lists up to two VM.Standard.E2.1.Micro instances and an allowance for A1 resources. These are account- and eligibility-dependent service allowances, not a promise that a desired shape will be available for your workload. Always Free instances must be created in your tenancy’s home region. Check the current quotas and eligible shapes in the OCI Console before designing the deployment. Oracle Always Free Resources.

The same Oracle documentation lists 10 TB of outbound data transfer per month for Always Free. Treat this as an allowance, not a guarantee of a sustained bitrate or network route performance. Your actual outgoing load is approximately the sum of the video bitrates, plus audio and protocol overhead.
Always Free capacity may not be provisionable when you need it. Oracle says an “out of host capacity” error means the home region temporarily lacks the requested Always Free shape; try another availability domain where supported, or wait and retry. Oracle’s Always Free documentation explains the allowance and capacity caveat.

Oracle also documents possible reclamation of Always Free compute when utilization is below 20% at the 95th percentile over a seven-day period for CPU and network; A1 instances also have a memory-utilization condition. A running encoder does not itself guarantee that an instance will avoid reclamation. Review Oracle’s current policy and monitor the instance’s utilization. Oracle Always Free compute reclamation.
Choose a per-channel YouTube profile
YouTube’s encoder recommendations are per stream. Start with a modest profile, test the visual quality and load, and scale only when the VM and network measurements support it. For H.264, YouTube recommends these video bitrates: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.

| Per-stream resolution and frame rate | Recommended H.264 video bitrate |
|---|---|
| 720p30 | 6 Mbps |
| 720p60 | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p30 | 14 Mbps |
| 1080p60 | 17 Mbps |
Multiply the selected bitrate by the number of simultaneous channels, then allow additional bandwidth for audio and operational headroom. For example, four 720p30 feeds would require 24 Mbps of video bitrate in aggregate, before audio and overhead. This arithmetic is not a guarantee that a particular OCI instance can sustain that load.
YouTube recommends progressive scan, constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval (not more than four seconds), two B-frames, one reference frame, and AAC or MP3 audio. For stereo audio it recommends 44.1 kHz and 128 Kbps. It recommends RTMPS for encrypted transport. Use the settings for the video profile you actually upload or encode; do not assume an OCI VM will handle higher resolutions or frame rates without testing.

Set up each channel and its encoder
- Prepare the source and VM. Choose an OCI shape available to your tenancy and install an encoder on a persistent VM. The exact operating system, encoder, and process manager are implementation choices; OCI and YouTube do not prescribe one universal setup. Confirm the source video, intended resolution, frame rate, codec, and audio format.
- Create or configure each YouTube stream. In YouTube Studio, open the channel’s Live Control Room and configure the stream. YouTube provides the stream URL and stream key as encoder inputs. Repeat for every channel, keeping a clear private mapping of channel to process and destination. See YouTube’s guide to using a stream key and encoder.
- Keep keys private. A stream key tells the encoder where to send the feed and lets YouTube accept it. Treat it like a password: do not put it in a public script, log, repository, screenshot, or shared command. Store it in a restricted configuration or secret store. If compromised, reset the key in YouTube Studio and update that channel’s encoder.
- Start one encoder process per channel. Configure each process with the matching source, stream URL, key, and recommended output settings. Do not reuse one channel’s key for another channel. Name processes and logs so a failure can be tied to the correct channel.
- Test before relying on it. Run each feed with representative motion and audio. Check the YouTube stream preview and stream health, and monitor the VM’s CPU, memory, and outbound network use. YouTube explicitly recommends testing before going live and monitoring stream health during the event. Add feeds one at a time so you can identify which process causes resource pressure.
- Configure recovery and monitoring. Use a service manager or equivalent process supervisor to restart an encoder after a process failure, and alert on repeated restarts, high resource use, or a channel going offline. A restart policy only addresses encoder-process failures; it cannot prevent VM, network, OCI service, account, or YouTube ingest interruptions. Check the YouTube stream after restarts, because recovery may require confirming the feed is healthy.
Estimate the real channel limit
Do not plan around a generic claim such as “this VM can run ten channels.” The available official OCI and YouTube sources give no tested concurrency limit for a specific VM shape and encoder workload. The limit changes with resolution, frame rate, codec, source complexity, encoder implementation, and the resources shared with other VM tasks.
- CPU and memory: Observe resource use while all intended encoder processes are running. Leave headroom for peaks and operating-system work rather than sizing to a brief idle reading.
- Network: Compare measured outbound throughput with the sum of all per-stream bitrates, plus audio and overhead. OCI’s monthly data-transfer allowance does not state sustained throughput for a particular route.
- Ingest health: A feed can have adequate VM resources yet still fail because of an incorrect key, URL, or output configuration. Use YouTube’s stream-health indicators to distinguish ingest problems from local resource limits.
Benchmark the exact number of feeds and settings you intend to keep live. Increase concurrency gradually and record CPU, memory, network use, encoder errors, and YouTube health. Recheck after changing a stream profile, source, or VM shape.

What 24/7 operation can and cannot guarantee
A persistent VM and supervised encoder processes can reduce manual restarts, but “24/7” is an operating goal, not a guarantee. Resource reclamation, lack of host capacity, VM or network outages, account restrictions, and YouTube ingest interruptions remain possible. Plan monitoring and a recovery procedure around the failure modes you can detect; do not treat a restart loop as high availability.
YouTube’s ingest configuration does not decide whether your channel can monetize content. Make sure you have rights to the video and audio you stream and follow YouTube’s current copyright and monetization policies, including its rules on reused content. An always-on stream does not make unlicensed or minimally transformed material permissible.
Common problems and fixes
- “Out of host capacity” while creating the VM: Oracle says this indicates temporary lack of the requested Always Free shape in the home region. Try another availability domain if supported, or wait and retry; confirm the shape is eligible for your tenancy.
- YouTube does not receive a feed: Check that the process uses that channel’s current stream URL and private key, that the key has not been reset, and that RTMPS and encoder output settings are configured correctly. Inspect YouTube’s stream-health display.
- One or more feeds buffer or drop: Compare aggregate outbound demand with the VM’s measured throughput and lower per-stream bitrate or concurrency for a controlled test. The recommended bitrate is a per-feed target, not proof of available VM bandwidth.
- Encoding lag or high CPU use: Reduce resolution or frame rate, or run fewer processes, then test again. There is no official universal stream count that can replace benchmarking your chosen encoder workload.
- A process restarts but the channel remains offline: Check its logs, key and URL, and YouTube health status. A supervisor can restart the local encoder but cannot resolve an OCI outage, invalid stream configuration, or an ingest-side interruption.
- The instance is reclaimed or no longer available: Review OCI’s current Always Free utilization and eligibility rules in the Console and Oracle documentation. Do not assume that an active process exempts a low-utilization instance from policy.
Or let it run in the cloud
If maintaining a VM and separate encoder processes is more operational work than you want, StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud service for keeping uploaded videos live. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Your computer can stay off; StreamNeo loops the uploaded video from the cloud and can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream.
