How to Run a Comedy Podcast Rerun Stream on YouTube All Day

A practical guide to streaming comedy podcast archives on YouTube Live: eligibility, rights, encoder setup, bitrate, session length, monitoring, and monetization.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

You can run recorded comedy podcast episodes as a YouTube Live stream by feeding them through an encoder connected to YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. For a stream you want YouTube to archive, plan sessions under 12 hours: streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. Check rights before broadcasting, test the encoder and audio, and keep local recordings rather than relying on YouTube as your only archive.

Check channel eligibility and content rights first

Confirm the channel can livestream

YouTube’s stated prerequisites include a verified channel, no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days, and a streamer who is at least 16 years old. Check the channel’s live-streaming status before planning a schedule; a restriction can prevent the event from starting.

Inventory every element in each episode

Having the podcast episode does not necessarily mean you have the rights needed to rebroadcast everything in it on YouTube. Check the spoken material, music, intro and outro, guest clips, artwork, and any sponsor reads. Confirm that your permissions cover YouTube video and livestream use, not only podcast distribution.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party copyrighted material. It may replace the stream with a placeholder, warn you, interrupt the stream, or terminate it if identified material remains. If you have licensed material that triggers Content ID, ask the rights holder to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist; a license alone may not stop an automated interruption. Claims can also be made against an archived live stream after it ends. Keep your licenses and permissions on file.

Prepare episodes and the on-screen presentation

Build a deliberate running order

Arrange episodes into a playlist that makes sense for a viewer arriving at any point. Consider episode labels, a now-playing card, and clear information in the stream title and description so viewers understand that they are hearing archived episodes. Check that transitions, silence, sponsor segments, and any repeated material work in a continuous broadcast.

Make the programming’s authorship clear

A playlist or visual overlay does not by itself make reruns original programming for monetization purposes. Make it easy to understand who made the show and what the stream contains. YouTube reviewers may consider the channel’s videos, descriptions, titles, and descriptions when assessing monetization. The editorial choices you make around the archive can help explain the format, but do not guarantee approval.

Create the YouTube Live event and connect an encoder

  1. Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Create or schedule a live stream. Scheduling can let viewers find the event in advance and opt into reminders.
  2. Copy the stream server URL and stream key. Enter both in your encoder’s streaming settings. Treat the stream key like a password: anyone with it may be able to broadcast to your channel. If it is exposed or compromised, reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
  3. Set the encoder to send the episode playlist. Use an encoder workflow that supports your chosen source and settings. Confirm that it is sending to the correct event, not an old stream.
  4. Wait for the preview. Check the image and audio in Live Control Room. For a scheduled event, click Go Live only after the preview is ready and you have confirmed the correct playlist is playing.
  5. Verify the public player. Open the stream on another device or browser and check that viewers can hear it, the picture is correct, and the event is public or otherwise set to the audience you intend.

Choose encoder settings and upload capacity

Use a sustainable quality, not just the highest available

Choose resolution and frame rate based on what the episodes need and what your connection can sustain. Comedy podcasts with a static or lightly animated visual may not benefit much from a high frame rate, while video clips or frequent movement may. YouTube’s recommendations are encoder targets, not a guarantee that an internet connection will remain stable at the stated rate.

For 1080p at 30 fps, YouTube’s current settings guide lists these bitrate recommendations:

Codec Minimum bitrate Recommended bitrate
H.264 5 Mbps 14 Mbps
AV1 or H.265 4 Mbps 10 Mbps

Codec availability depends on the encoder and delivery workflow. YouTube lists RTMP/RTMPS and H.264, H.265, and AV1 options, with support varying by protocol and codec. Use RTMPS when available for encrypted delivery. Its settings guide recommends constant bitrate (CBR), up to 60 fps, and a 2-second keyframe interval; the interval should not exceed 4 seconds.

Leave room for network variation

The relevant connection speed is sustained upload capacity. YouTube recommends leaving 20% headroom and accounting for both primary and backup streams. For example, if your encoder sends a 10 Mbps stream, do not plan around a connection that can only just upload at 10 Mbps. Test the actual setup for long enough to expose congestion, dropped frames, or audio problems before relying on it for an all-day schedule.

Divide the schedule into archive-friendly sessions

YouTube’s archive guidance warns: “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” If you need a YouTube archive, end each session before the 12-hour mark and start a new event rather than treating one uninterrupted broadcast as a dependable archive strategy. Leave time for a controlled handoff; avoid scheduling sessions so tightly that a delayed restart leaves the channel silent.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Approach Fits when Trade-off
One session under 12 hours You are running a one-off all-day event and want a YouTube archive. You must end the event and manage a restart if you want another session.
Repeat shorter sessions You run daily or continuous programming and want separate event archives. Each session needs event management and monitoring; plan the handoffs.
API-managed broadcast events with a continuing feed A technical team needs to manage viewer-facing broadcast events while an encoder feed continues. It involves more setup and operational complexity, and does not remove archive, copyright, or service-availability limits.

YouTube’s developer documentation describes a 24/7 broadcast use case and distinguishes the viewer-facing broadcast from the encoder’s stream feed. That is an architecture option for technical teams, not a promise that YouTube will keep a feed uninterrupted. For most creators, scheduled shorter events are easier to operate and give clearer archive boundaries.

Do not treat YouTube’s archive as your only copy. Save the original episode files and, if preserving the actual broadcast matters, record locally as well. Keeping each episode separately is the safer way to ensure that every file remains available regardless of what happens to a long live archive.

Monitor the stream and plan for recovery

  • Watch stream health: Check Live Control Room for encoder warnings, connection problems, or dropped frames.
  • Listen from another device: Verify volume, channel balance, silence, and transitions from the viewer’s perspective.
  • Check the playlist: Confirm that it advances as expected and does not stall at the end of a file.
  • Inspect local recordings: Make sure files are being written and growing, and that the recording device has enough storage.
  • Plan human oversight: Assign someone to check the broadcast or establish an alerting and recovery process. A continuous schedule still needs a response plan for encoder, network, or platform interruptions.

Can you monetize reruns of a comedy podcast?

Possibly, but neither owning the podcast nor holding licenses guarantees YouTube monetization. YouTube’s channel monetization policies apply to live streams as well as other channel content. Its July 15, 2025 update renamed “repetitious content” to “inauthentic content” to clarify that repetitive or mass-produced content is ineligible under the existing policy; YouTube said the reused-content policy did not change.

Reused content can include material repurposed from YouTube or elsewhere without significant original commentary, substantive modifications, or educational or entertainment value. Review is at channel level, and reviewers may assess the channel’s overall presentation as well as individual uploads. Make the podcast’s authorship and the stream’s purpose clear, but do not assume that a playlist, a new visual template, or permission to rebroadcast is enough for approval.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For channels that are eligible to monetize, YouTube documents live ad controls, including an optional Stream Deck workflow for inserting live ads. Stream Deck is not required to livestream, and the ad workflow is relevant only if you are managing a monetized channel. Do not add ad breaks in a way that obscures sponsor obligations or rights restrictions in the episodes.
