You can run a 24/7 YouTube stream from OBS if your computer stays powered on, your connection sustains a stable upload to YouTube, and OBS keeps encoding and sending video. Start with a conservative bitrate, preferably connect by Ethernet, test at the hours you plan to stream, and have a recovery plan: an advertised broadband speed or one speed test cannot guarantee an uninterrupted broadcast.
What a 24/7 OBS stream needs
OBS on a computer sends a continuous video feed to YouTube. That means the computer and its encoder, the modem/router, and the internet connection all need to keep working. A power cut, local network fault, ISP interruption, or OBS/computer failure can stop the broadcast; the 24/7 goal is an operational setup, not a preset that guarantees uptime.

Check Indian broadband upload speed and FUP
Compare plans using declared typical upload speed, fair-use policy (FUP), post-limit speed, availability at your address, and measured stability during the hours you will stream. A large download-speed figure does not tell you whether the upload can carry a live broadcast steadily. Test from the same computer and connection you intend to use, during likely streaming hours and while normal household devices are online.
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India says it does not prescribe a minimum download or upload speed; providers must state typical speeds and FUP terms. Its broadband FAQ also says speed is reduced after an unlimited-plan FUP limit is exhausted, with the limit and reduced speed stated by the provider. Check the TRAI broadband FAQ and use the TRAI MySpeed app or portal to check your connection.

FUP details are provider- and plan-specific. For example, Airtel’s terms describe 3333 GB in a billing cycle followed by a reduction to 1 Mbps; the same page says FUP may be amended and availability depends on network feasibility at the address. This is an Airtel-specific example, not a universal Indian broadband allowance: verify your current plan terms at Airtel’s broadband terms or with your own provider.
Choose an OBS profile your upload can sustain
For a straightforward H.264 setup, YouTube’s current encoder guidance recommends the following video bitrates. Select based on sustained upload capacity and the detail you need, not the headline broadband tier. A lower-resolution profile is a reasonable first test when upload varies.

| Profile | YouTube-recommended H.264 video bitrate | When to consider it |
|---|---|---|
| 720p30 | 3 Mbps | A modest starting point when stable upload is limited or variable. |
| 1080p30 | 5 Mbps | More picture detail if the connection sustains the higher bitrate. |
| 1080p60 | 6 Mbps | Smoother motion when both the content and sustained upload justify it. |
| 720p60 | 8 Mbps | Higher motion at 720p; note that YouTube’s listed recommendation is higher than its 1080p30 recommendation. |
These are recommended video bitrates, not total household bandwidth requirements or a promise of reliable streaming. Audio and other network traffic also use capacity. YouTube’s encoder guidance covers H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1; this guide uses H.264 as the simpler common workflow. If you choose another supported codec, use the corresponding codec-specific values in YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrate guidance.
Configure OBS and connect it to YouTube
- Prepare the YouTube broadcast. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream and copy its stream key. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it. YouTube may require live streaming to be enabled on the channel; check the current channel prompts and restrictions before the planned start.
- Set the video profile in OBS. Open Settings > Video, set the output resolution and frame rate to the profile you chose, such as 1280×720 at 30 fps or 1920×1080 at 30 fps. Keep the canvas and output settings appropriate for your source; unnecessary scaling adds work without improving the source image.
- Set streaming output. In Settings > Output, choose the streaming encoder and H.264 where available. Set rate control to CBR and enter the selected video bitrate. In the encoder options, set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds; YouTube recommends two seconds and says not to exceed four seconds. Choose a YouTube-compatible RTMP or RTMPS ingest connection. Exact encoder labels can vary by OBS version and hardware encoder.
- Enter the stream key. In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select YouTube if available, and connect the account or enter the copied stream key and server details. Avoid showing the key in screenshots or recordings.
- Check audio and scenes. Confirm the intended video source, audio source, and levels in the OBS mixer. A stream can be technically connected but still be silent, black, or showing the wrong scene.
- Start a realistic test. Use audio and movement similar to the real broadcast. Start streaming and inspect YouTube Live Control Room’s stream-health notices as well as OBS’s dropped-frame statistics. Let the test run long enough to encounter ordinary connection fluctuations, then test again during the hours the 24/7 stream will operate.
Use Ethernet and plan for interruptions
Use a wired Ethernet connection between the streaming computer and router when practical. OBS Project’s connection troubleshooting guide, published 2024-09-30, says “WiFi may be unstable for streaming” and recommends a wired connection. Ethernet removes Wi-Fi as one possible source of instability; it does not fix an ISP-side route problem or prevent an outage.

Works seamlessly with PS4, PS5, Xbox, Switch, DSLR cameras, TV boxes, and other HDMI-output devices for streaming to YouTube, Twitch, etc.
- 【What You Get】Includes: HDMI Capture Card, USB 3.0 to USB-C Adapter, User Manual. Tips: Make sure your tablet’s OTG function is enabled before connecting. Test your HDMI device with a monitor first to confirm video and audio output, then connect to the Video Capture Card for recording.
A UPS can provide short-duration backup power for the computer and modem/router, but the needed capacity and runtime depend on the connected load and battery. It cannot keep the stream online through an ISP outage, a local fiber fault, or a wider network interruption. Plan how you will check and restart the broadcast if power, equipment, or connectivity fails.
Diagnose dropped frames and YouTube warnings
OBS defines network-dropped frames as a connection to the remote server that is unstable or cannot sustain the selected bitrate. Its troubleshooting guide notes that the cause is typically outside OBS itself. Reduce the bitrate and retest rather than assuming the broadband plan’s stated speed is continuously available to YouTube.

- 【1080P HD High Quality】Capture resolution up to 1080p for video source and it is ideal for all HDMI devices such as PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Wii U, DVDs, DSLR, Camera, Security Camera and set top box. - 【Plug and Play】No driver or external power supply required, true PnP. Once plugged in, the device is identified automatically as a webcam. Detect input and adjust output automatically. Won't occupy CPU, optional audio capture. No freeze with correct setting.
- 【Compatible with Multiple Systems】suitable for Windows and Mac OS. High speed USB 3.0 technology and superior low latency technology makes it easier for you to transmit live streaming to Twitch, Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, OBS, Potplayer and VLC.
- 【HDMI LOOP-OUT】Based on the high-speed USB 3.0 technology, it can capture one single channel HD HDMI video signal. There is no delay when you are playing game live.
- 【Support Mic-in for Commentary】Rybozen capture card has microphone input and you can use it to add external commentary when playing a game. Please note: it only accepts 3.5mm TRS standard microphone headset.
- OBS shows network-dropped frames or disconnects: lower the bitrate and test again. OBS suggests 75% of total upload speed as a troubleshooting starting point, not a guarantee of round-the-clock capacity. If available, try a different ingest server; inspect the cable, router/modem, network drivers, VPN or security software, and route congestion.
- Wi-Fi drops while streaming: test over Ethernet. If the drops remain on a wired connection, investigate the router/modem, computer, route, or ISP rather than treating Wi-Fi as the only possible cause.
- YouTube reports insufficient incoming video: read the exact stream-health notice. Check that bitrate and codec are supported and that the keyframe interval is correct. YouTube’s health reference includes warnings for high or low bitrate, unsupported codec, excessive keyframe interval, and “video ingestion starved.” See YouTube Live Streaming API health-status messages.
- A speed test looks fine but the stream still drops: a speed test does not prove a continuously stable route from your computer to YouTube’s ingest server. Record the time and OBS/YouTube messages, check local equipment and software, and compare results at the actual streaming hours.
- Problems persist after local checks: note when interruptions occur and share the stream-health messages and connection details with your ISP. OBS identifies congestion or ISP-side changes as possible causes; a single speed test cannot establish the cause.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the computer, home power, or broadband cannot stay available around the clock, StreamNeo is a cloud alternative for keeping an uploaded video or playlist live on YouTube.
