You can stream recorded IIT foundation lessons on YouTube through an encoder, but plan for shorter sessions rather than one uninterrupted 24-hour broadcast. YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured as replays, so keep local recordings and test the handoff between sessions. Before leaving lessons on air, also confirm channel eligibility, content rights, monetization compliance, and a way to monitor and recover the feed.
What you need before starting
- A YouTube channel that is verified, has live streaming enabled, and has had no live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time live-stream enablement can take up to 24 hours, so do this ahead of launch. YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance explains the requirements.
- Recorded lessons you have the rights to broadcast, including the lecture footage, instructor audio, board writing, slides, music, graphics, and any embedded clips.
- An encoder: YouTube supports software encoders on computers and dedicated hardware encoders. Either way, the encoder must be able to play the recordings in sequence and send the resulting feed to YouTube.
- A reliable upload connection, a local recording backup, and a person or tested monitoring system able to respond to failures.
Being able to start an encoder feed does not mean YouTube has pre-approved a particular 24/7 format or that the channel will qualify for monetization. Treat those as separate policy questions.

Prepare the lesson playlist and channel
Check rights and lesson continuity
Build an ordered playlist and play it through before going live. Check that lesson changes do not create long silent gaps, black frames, abrupt volume jumps, or material you did not intend to broadcast. If lessons contain third-party material, confirm that the rights cover live streaming on YouTube; a license alone may not prevent an automated interruption unless the rights holder also allowlists the channel through Content ID.
Enable live streaming early
Verify the channel and enable live streaming in advance. Check YouTube Studio for any restrictions that could prevent a broadcast. If this is the channel’s first live stream, activation may take up to 24 hours. The account requirements are listed in YouTube’s live streaming help.

Create a YouTube stream and connect the encoder
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go live.
- Create a new stream or schedule one in Live Control Room. Add an accurate title and description that identify the lessons and the broadcast schedule.
- Copy the YouTube server URL and stream key from the stream settings into the encoder’s streaming destination fields. Keep the key private: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your channel. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio.
- Configure the encoder to play the recorded lessons in order and send the output to YouTube. YouTube supports both software and hardware encoders; its setup walkthrough is at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Start the encoder, then wait for the feed preview in Live Control Room. Check the picture and sound before selecting the option to go live. Starting the encoder sends a feed; the preview check lets you catch problems before viewers see it.
Plan sessions around YouTube’s archive limit
Do not rely on a single 24-hour session if viewers need a YouTube replay. YouTube may automatically archive streams shorter than 12 hours and warns that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. It recommends keeping a local archive. See YouTube’s archive guidance.
Divide the day into broadcast blocks shorter than 12 hours, with a tested stop-and-restart handoff between them. Keep a local recording of each block so you have a copy if a platform archive is missing. Tell viewers where the next session will appear in the title or description; that is useful scheduling information, not a YouTube requirement.

Live DVR may let viewers pause and rewind, but YouTube says it can be limited or unavailable on very long streams, including streams beyond 12 hours. Avoid promising viewers unlimited rewind during a continuous broadcast. Details are in YouTube’s DVR guidance.

Test and monitor the broadcast
Before launch
- Run a private or unlisted test and confirm the stream appears in Live Control Room.
- Listen for clear, continuous audio and watch for video freezes, unexpected black frames, or playback stopping at a playlist boundary.
- Check that the local recording is being created and that you can find and play the resulting file.
- Test the session handoff and recovery steps before relying on them during the public schedule.
During operation
YouTube recommends upload bandwidth with 20% headroom over the stream’s total bitrate, monitoring audio and video, checking the preview, and verifying the live page on devices viewers use. A connection disruption can break the stream. Follow YouTube’s streaming tips for its monitoring guidance.

A 24/7 schedule needs an assigned response for a dropped feed, encoder crash, failed lesson playback, silent audio, copyright notice, or session transition. Decide who will act and how they will restart the encoder or move to a backup. This is an operational safeguard, not a guarantee of uninterrupted streaming.
Protect copyright compliance and monetization eligibility
Live-stream copyright checks
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. A match may cause a placeholder to replace the stream, a warning, an interruption, or termination if the material remains. If a rights holder has licensed content for your broadcast, ask whether they must add your channel to their Content ID allowlist. YouTube explains these risks in Copyright issues with live streams.

Permission does not settle reused-content review
YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams, and reused-content review applies to the channel as a whole. Permission to use material, or the absence of a copyright claim, does not by itself establish monetization eligibility. For an IIT foundation lessons channel, make the original teaching and educational contribution evident: identify the instructor and creator, provide meaningful explanations, and present the lessons as your own educational work rather than simply rebroadcasting material from elsewhere.
