YouTube Studio can schedule and manage two livestream events, but it does not provide a documented automatic playlist-rotation or overlap-free handoff control. To avoid simultaneous streams, coordinate the playlist change in your encoder or production system, end the outgoing event, then start the incoming event only after its preview appears in Live Control Room.
What you can—and cannot—automate in YouTube Studio
YouTube Studio supports scheduling livestreams, configuring encoder connections, reusing stream settings, and ending events. Its published instructions do not describe an automatic playlist rotation between two livestreams or guarantee that a handoff will be overlap-free. Treat playlist sequencing and the switch timing as tasks for your production system and operator, then use Studio to schedule and monitor each event. YouTube’s encoder livestream instructions and Live Redirect instructions describe the relevant Studio controls.

The strictest practical sequence is to stop the outgoing stream before starting the next one. Send the incoming feed to YouTube, wait for its Live Control Room preview, and only then start the event. This uses YouTube’s documented preview and end-stream controls; it is not an instantaneous or guaranteed automated handoff.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteSet up two separate livestream events
- Schedule each event. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room, select Manage, and schedule both livestreams as distinct events. Check each event’s title, description, visibility, and start time.
- Review copied settings. If you use Reuse settings, YouTube copies the previous stream’s metadata, settings, and stream key. Inspect the copied details before using them, especially the event information and which encoder connection you intend to use.
- Prepare the playlist transition in your production system. Configure the outgoing and incoming playlists, and decide who or what will stop the first feed and start the next. YouTube’s cited instructions do not specify a Studio playlist-rotation or overlap-prevention setting. Do not assume that scheduling two events alone switches playlists or stops an encoder feed.
YouTube recommends setting up an encoder in advance and checking the preview before the event. Its guidance suggests setting up at least two hours ahead and starting the encoder at least 15 minutes before the event; those are preparation recommendations, not a promise that a handoff will succeed or be overlap-free. See YouTube’s streaming tips.

Perform the handoff without running both streams at once
- Connect the incoming encoder feed. Enter the incoming event’s YouTube stream URL and stream key in the encoder, or use its YouTube integration. YouTube’s help says: “To start streaming, enter your YouTube Live server URL and stream key into your encoder.” See Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Check the incoming preview. Start sending the incoming feed and wait for it to appear in Live Control Room. Confirm that the correct playlist is playing and that the video and audio are present.
- End the outgoing event first. Stop the outgoing encoder output and end that event in Studio as directed there. Coordinate these actions before starting the incoming event; the documentation does not specify an exact transition buffer or promise an instantaneous end.
- Start the incoming event. Once the outgoing event has ended and the incoming preview is ready, select Go live for the incoming event. Monitor Live Control Room to confirm that the intended event is live.
This order prioritizes no simultaneous streams over uninterrupted viewer playback. Stopping the first event before starting the next can leave a gap while the second preview is checked and the event is started; the official instructions do not promise a zero-gap transition.
Keep Live Redirect separate from playlist rotation
Live Redirect can send viewers after one stream ends to a Premiere or another channel’s live stream, subject to eligibility and configuration conditions. YouTube describes it this way: “You can send your live stream’s viewers to a Premiere to build excitement or send them to another channel’s live stream to help other creators grow.” It is an audience-routing feature, not a playlist scheduler, encoder-feed switch, or safeguard against two feeds running at once. See How to use YouTube Live Redirect.

Check stream and encoder limits
YouTube’s getting-started page states a maximum of 10 active streams per channel and 3 active streams per stream key. These are concurrency ceilings, not a way to synchronize two streams or prevent overlap. Check the current limits and your planned stream-key use in YouTube’s getting-started instructions.

You can use software or a hardware encoder, but a dedicated hardware encoder is optional; YouTube does not establish it as a requirement for playlist rotation or as a way to prevent overlap. YouTube lists verified software and hardware options and notes those products are not made by YouTube: encoder options. If you are evaluating equipment, search for “hardware video encoder for YouTube Live” and verify that a candidate supports your intended workflow.

Troubleshoot a handoff
- The incoming preview does not appear: Check that the encoder is sending to the incoming event’s stream URL and key, and allow time for the feed to reach Live Control Room. Do not click Go live until the preview is available.
- The wrong playlist or event details appear: Check the production-system playlist selection and review reused metadata and settings before starting. Reusing settings copies the prior event’s metadata, settings, and stream key; it does not configure a new playlist transition for you.
- Both feeds appear to be running: Stop the outgoing encoder output and end its Studio event before starting the incoming event. Scheduling events does not itself establish a no-overlap handoff.
- Viewers do not move to the next event: Live Redirect is a separate viewer-routing feature with eligibility and setup conditions. It does not start the next encoder feed or rotate its playlist.
- You cannot start another stream: Check whether the channel has reached YouTube’s stated active-stream limit or the stream key’s limit, and confirm that an earlier event or encoder feed has actually ended.
Or let it run in the cloud
For a YouTube channel that needs uploaded videos to run continuously, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It loops the upload from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. Each slot supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. The monthly option is $9.99 per month. It plays uploaded videos rather than going live from a camera, and streams to YouTube.
