To right-click on a Samsung Galaxy tablet, connect a USB or Bluetooth mouse and press its right button. For Samsung DeX, Samsung documents right-click as a way to access more functions. A compatible keyboard cover with a touchpad can also work as a mouse alternative, but exact behavior depends on your tablet, software, and app.
What right-click does on a Samsung tablet
Right-click usually opens a contextual menu of actions for the item or area you select. Samsung specifically describes this function in the desktop-like Samsung DeX environment; that does not mean every standard Android screen or app will display the same menu.

Right-click with a USB or Bluetooth mouse
- Choose a connection. A USB mouse connects through a suitable port or adapter; a Bluetooth mouse pairs wirelessly. Check that your tablet supports the connection you plan to use.
- Connect the mouse. For Bluetooth, pair it through the tablet’s Bluetooth settings. For USB, connect it to the tablet, using an adapter if your model requires one.
- Open DeX if you want the desktop-style experience. Use the right mouse button on an item or area. The available menu depends on the app and context.
Samsung lists USB and Bluetooth mice as DeX input options in its Galaxy tablet DeX guide. The guide covers multiple models, so confirm compatibility for your specific tablet before choosing accessories.

Use a keyboard cover’s touchpad
If you have a compatible Samsung Book Cover Keyboard with a touchpad, you can use that touchpad in place of a separate mouse in DeX. The cover must fit your exact tablet model. Samsung’s instructions are in Use a keyboard and mouse with Samsung DeX.
Touchpad gestures and menu behavior can vary by model, software version, and app. If a gesture does not open a context menu, connect a mouse with a physical right button for the most straightforward method.

Use DeX on the tablet or with an external display
DeX can run on a supported tablet itself; HDMI output is not a prerequisite for standalone DeX. Samsung’s workspace instructions list several ways to navigate DeX, including the touchpad icon, S Pen, a USB or Bluetooth mouse and keyboard, and a keyboard cover: Manage workspaces in Samsung DeX mode.

External-display capability is a separate compatibility question. Samsung’s current U.S. DeX guidance lists supported tablet families including Tab S4 through S11 and A11+. It separately says Tab S9 FE, Tab S9 FE+, Tab S10 FE, Tab S10 FE+, and Tab S10 Lite are not compatible with HDMI output. That HDMI limitation alone does not establish whether standalone DeX is supported on a particular model; check the exact model in Samsung’s compatibility guidance.

Samsung documents these input approaches for DeX, but does not establish that every third-party mouse or keyboard cover works with every Galaxy tablet.

- Confirm that the mouse is connected or paired and that its buttons work.
- Try right-clicking an item in DeX, where Samsung documents the function, rather than assuming every standard Android screen has a desktop-style context menu.
- Try another item or app; available actions can differ by context.
- Check your tablet model’s DeX and accessory compatibility, especially if you are using an external display or a keyboard cover.
DeX for PC is not available on Galaxy tablets; this guide concerns DeX running on the tablet or with an external display, as covered in Samsung’s keyboard and mouse guidance.
