Do not publish AI-generated website copy on the strength of a fluent draft. Put it through a human pre-publication gate: define the page’s audience and purpose, inventory every claim, verify important statements against authoritative sources, remove anything unsupported, then edit for usefulness, originality, accessibility, and conversion. The same gate must cover search metadata, structured data, image alt text, links, and any disclosure about automation.
AI can produce a coherent first draft while still getting a product specification, price, law, medical statement, date, quote, or comparison wrong. A reviewer who knows the business and the subject must decide what is true, what is useful, and what the page is prepared to stand behind.

What the review gate is meant to prevent
AI output is a draft, not evidence. It may combine correct general knowledge with invented details, stale information, overconfident wording, or claims that sound specific but have no support. A polished tone can make those defects harder to notice.

Google Search Central says publishers should manually fact-check and review AI-generated content for accuracy and trustworthiness before publishing. Its guidance applies not only to visible paragraphs but also to metadata such as title elements, meta descriptions, structured data, and alternate text for images. Google’s people-first guidance also asks whether a page provides original information or analysis, a substantial and complete description, and factual accuracy.

The practical objective is not to make a page sound less polished. It is to make every material sentence defensible and every section useful to the intended reader. A page should still help someone who arrives directly, without a search engine supplying context.
1. Write a brief before editing the draft
Put a short brief at the top of the working document. It gives the reviewer a standard against which to judge both facts and omissions.
- Audience: Name the person, role, skill level, and situation. “Small-business owner choosing accounting software” is more useful than “anyone interested in finance.”
- Job to be done: State the decision or task the page must help with.
- Geographic scope: Record the country, state, or market. Laws, prices, shipping, availability, and spelling can vary.
- Date sensitivity: Mark facts that need a current check, such as pricing, product versions, regulations, staffing, or availability.
- Conversion goal: Define the next action, such as requesting a quote, starting a trial, downloading a guide, or contacting support.
- Evidence standard: Decide which claims require a primary source, a qualified subject-matter reviewer, or both.
If the draft cannot be described in one clear sentence, fix the assignment before fixing the prose. A vague brief encourages generic paragraphs and makes it difficult to tell whether the page is complete.
2. Build a claim inventory
Read the draft once only to mark claims. Highlight every sentence or phrase that a reasonable reader could treat as a fact, promise, measurement, opinion presented as fact, or description of an entity.
Claims that always belong on the list
- Numbers, percentages, dates, ranges, dimensions, limits, and performance figures.
- Prices, discounts, billing terms, delivery estimates, eligibility rules, and availability.
- Legal, regulatory, financial, medical, safety, or security statements.
- Product specifications, compatibility statements, version numbers, and feature lists.
- Named companies, people, certifications, studies, awards, customers, and quotations.
- Comparisons and superlatives such as “best,” “fastest,” “only,” “leading,” or “most secure.”
- Claims of testing, personal experience, customer outcomes, or internal results.
- Time-sensitive wording such as “currently,” “this year,” “now,” or “as of today.”
Break compound sentences into individual claims. “The device is lighter, faster, and safer than its predecessor” contains at least three separate assertions, each needing its own support. Record the exact wording, the source you intend to use, the source date, the applicable geography or edition, and the reviewer responsible for the check.
| Inventory field | What to record | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Claim | The smallest factual unit, quoted exactly | Prevents a source from being stretched to support a broader sentence |
| Source | Primary documentation or another authoritative source | Shows where the fact came from |
| Scope | Country, audience, product edition, version, or date | Keeps a true statement from becoming misleading elsewhere |
| Status | Verified, revised, removed, or awaiting review | Stops unchecked claims slipping through the final edit |
| Owner | Named editor or subject-matter reviewer | Creates clear accountability |
3. Verify evidence claim by claim
Use the strongest practical source for each material statement. A product’s official documentation is normally better than a summary written by a third party; a regulator, statute, or court is better than a blog interpreting a rule; and a manufacturer’s current specification is better than an old comparison article.

Match the wording to what the source actually establishes
Do not treat a source as permission to write a more precise or more favorable claim. If documentation says a feature is “supported,” do not write that it is “included on every plan.” If a study found an association, do not rewrite it as proof of causation. If a price applies to one region, billing term, or promotional period, carry that qualification into the sentence or table cell.

When a source is dated, preserve the date in the copy where it affects the reader’s decision: “The manufacturer lists 8 GB of memory in the 2026 model specification.” For a changing price, state the market, currency, plan, and whether the amount recurs. Remove unsupported precision instead of guessing a range.
Use a stop rule for unsupported claims
Every material claim should end in one of three states:
- Verified: The source supports the wording, scope, and date.
- Qualified: The claim is useful after adding a limitation, uncertainty, or attribution.
- Removed: No trustworthy support is available, or the claim is not necessary to the page.
Do not leave a sentence in place because it “sounds likely.” Search engines and readers cannot see the reviewer’s intention; they see an assertion. An unsupported “up to” number, invented customer result, or vague reference to “studies show” is weaker than no number at all.
4. Run a hallucination and experience check
AI can invent plausible citations, people, quotes, product capabilities, awards, test results, and customer stories. It can also imply that the publisher performed a test or has credentials that no one on the team holds.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Remove invented authority
- Delete a study, statistic, quotation, award, certification, or named expert unless you can locate and verify the original.
- Remove testimonials and customer outcomes unless the business has permission and records supporting them.
- Delete “we tested,” “our benchmark,” or “in our experience” when no documented test or first-hand experience exists.
- Do not attribute a conclusion to an organization merely because the conclusion sounds consistent with its work.
If a test has not been performed, say what is known from published specifications or explain what a buyer should test. That is more trustworthy than presenting a hypothetical result as an observation.

Check entities and relationships
Verify names, ownership, locations, dates, model numbers, software versions, and relationships between organizations. AI often combines details from similarly named entities. A correct paragraph about the wrong edition or jurisdiction is still wrong for the reader.
5. Add value that a generic draft cannot provide
Fact-checking fixes errors; it does not automatically make a page worth reading. Compare options on meaningful dimensions such as evidence quality, accuracy, audience fit, maintenance burden, implementation effort, and risk. Explain constraints and trade-offs rather than declaring a universal winner.
Make the page complete enough for its purpose
- Answer the decision the brief identified, not a broader keyword suggested by the draft.
- Include prerequisites, compatibility limits, costs, timing, and who should not use the option when those affect the decision.
- Show a concrete example, calculation, workflow, or decision rule.
- State what the reader should do next and what result to expect.
Originality does not require a dramatic opinion. It can be a clearly explained constraint, a local example, a maintained checklist, or an analysis that connects several verified facts. A page assembled from generic definitions and interchangeable benefits is unlikely to satisfy a reader who needs to act.
6. Edit for human, precise language
After the evidence pass, edit the prose as if it came from an inexperienced contributor. Preserve useful detail while removing patterns that make AI copy feel inflated or evasive.
Replace boilerplate with observable detail
Cut openings such as “in today’s fast-paced world” and claims that a product is “revolutionary,” “seamless,” or “game-changing” unless the word has a defined, supported meaning. Name the action, condition, limit, or result instead: “The export requires administrator access” tells the reader more than “the process is seamless.”
Control certainty and repetition
- Use “can,” “may,” or “the documentation states” when the evidence does not justify an absolute claim.
- Remove repeated conclusions, duplicated benefits, and multiple versions of the same caveat.
- Prefer short paragraphs, concrete verbs, and specific nouns.
- Keep terminology consistent; define an unavoidable technical term at first use.
- Use inclusive language and check examples for stereotypes, unnecessary gendering, and assumptions about ability, income, location, or family structure.
Read the page aloud or have an editor who did not prompt the model read it cold. Awkward transitions, circular explanations, and sudden changes in confidence are easier to hear than to spot during line editing.

7. Decide whether to disclose automation
Disclosure is a trust decision, not a claim that every sentence was written by a machine. Google’s people-first guidance recommends explaining how automation was used when readers might reasonably wonder how the content was created.
Use a truthful, specific note when automation materially shaped the page or when the subject involves heightened trust. Identify the human responsibility: who checked facts, who reviewed specialist claims, and when the page was last updated. Do not present AI as a human author, invent a human byline, or imply that a named expert approved text they never saw.
A concise disclosure might state that automation assisted with drafting or organization and that a named editor verified the claims and made the final publication decision. Adjust the wording to what actually happened; do not claim specialist review if none occurred.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.8. Review the entire web page, not only the body copy
Search-facing and accessibility elements are part of the publication gate. A factually careful article can still mislead if its title promises more than the body delivers or if its structured data describes a different page.
Title and meta description
- Make the title accurately describe the page’s subject, audience, and scope.
- Ensure the meta description does not add a benefit, number, price, or guarantee absent from the body.
- Check that dates and version labels match the page and are still current.
Headings, links, and structured data
- Use a logical heading hierarchy; each H2 should answer a distinct reader question.
- Open every link and confirm that it reaches the intended page, uses the correct geography, and does not lead to a stale or redirected source.
- Make structured data describe visible, accurate content. Remove fields the page cannot substantiate, and validate the markup before release.
- Check canonical and indexing settings so the reviewed URL is the one search engines are allowed to index.
Images and accessibility
- Write alt text that conveys the image’s purpose, not a keyword list.
- Use an empty alt attribute for a purely decorative image when appropriate, rather than forcing screen-reader users through irrelevant detail.
- Check color contrast, keyboard focus, link purpose, form labels, captions, and mobile layout.
- Inspect the rendered page, not just the source or content-management preview.
9. Scale review effort to claim risk
Not every sentence needs the same level of scrutiny. Apply the strongest process where an error could cause injury, financial loss, legal exposure, discrimination, or a serious loss of trust.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →| Risk level | Typical claims | Minimum review |
|---|---|---|
| High | Medical, legal, financial, safety, security, regulatory, or identity claims | Primary-source verification, documented source date and scope, and review by an appropriately qualified subject-matter expert |
| Medium | Product specifications, compatibility, pricing, performance, comparisons, and availability | Current authoritative documentation, claim inventory, and second-person editorial check |
| Lower | Definitions, navigation copy, descriptions without promises, and general explanations | Editor checks accuracy, clarity, completeness, accessibility, and consistency |
Risk is contextual. A simple-sounding sentence can become high risk when it tells a reader how to take medicine, comply with a law, secure an account, or spend a large amount of money.
Best Value
10. Use a final sign-off checklist
A named human should sign off only after the following checks are complete:
- The brief identifies the audience, purpose, geography, date sensitivity, and conversion goal.
- Every material factual claim has a source, a scope, and a current status.
- Unsupported precision, invented authority, unverified quotes, and fictional experience have been removed.
- High-risk claims have received proportionate specialist review.
- The page adds original information, analysis, examples, constraints, or decision help.
- Headings follow a logical order, the language is inclusive, and repetition is gone.
- The title, description, structured data, links, alt text, canonical setting, and indexing choice match the visible page.
- The rendered page works on mobile and with keyboard and assistive technology checks.
- Any automation disclosure is accurate, and the responsible human reviewer is identifiable where readers would reasonably ask.
- The reviewer confirms that the page would remain useful to a direct visitor, even without search traffic.
11. Measure the process without inventing benchmarks
There is no general authoritative error rate or universal review-time target for AI-generated website copy. Set internal measures only after recording your own baseline. Useful measures include the percentage of claims requiring correction, the number of unsupported claims caught before publication, errors discovered after publication, review time by risk level, and the number of post-publication corrections.
Review those measures by content type and reviewer, not as a single site-wide score. A rising correction rate may indicate weaker prompts, stale source material, a new product area, or an overloaded reviewer. The purpose of measurement is to improve the gate, not to justify publishing unchecked drafts faster.
A practical handoff workflow
For teams, assign each stage explicitly so “someone checked it” does not replace evidence.
- Writer or model operator: supplies the draft and records the intended audience, purpose, and source leads.
- Subject owner: verifies product, policy, legal, medical, financial, or technical details within their remit.
- Editor: checks claims, structure, originality, tone, accessibility, and duplication.
- Web publisher: checks metadata, links, structured data, rendering, canonical settings, and indexing controls.
- Accountable approver: confirms that unresolved claims are qualified or removed and authorizes publication.
Keep the claim inventory and source dates with the page’s editorial record. When a price, regulation, product version, or other volatile fact changes, the next editor can update the exact sentence instead of rechecking the entire page from scratch.
What “ready to publish” means
An AI-assisted page is ready when a human can explain why each important claim is present, where its evidence comes from, who checked it, and what a reader should do with it. Fluency is only the starting condition. Accuracy, usefulness, originality, transparent responsibility, and a working web implementation are the publication standard.
