To remove information you shared in a Meta AI conversation, type /reset-ai in that AI chat and follow any in-app confirmation. To review WhatsApp AI chat history first, download it from the chat’s options. Saved memory is a separate issue: deleting a visible conversation should not be assumed to delete a memory used to personalize later replies.
First, identify what you want to remove
Meta AI information can exist in different forms, and the controls are not interchangeable:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- A visible chat: The conversation shown in an app’s chat list.
- Information shared in an AI chat: Details you provided that Meta says may be used to improve products or personalize responses.
- Saved memory: Certain details Meta AI may retain to personalize later conversations, where that feature is available.
Meta describes chat-reset and memory-deletion controls separately. Its published material does not establish that deleting a visible chat also deletes a separately saved memory, or that deleting a memory erases the original conversation.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDelete information shared in an AI chat with /reset-ai
In the Meta AI conversation, type /reset-ai (including the slash and hyphen). Meta documents this command for deleting information shared in AI chats across Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp. Follow the response in the app to check whether the reset succeeded; confirmation screens may vary by product.

Meta says information shared with its generative AI features may be used to improve products and for other purposes, and may be retained to personalize responses. It also says certain questions may be shared with trusted partners, such as search providers. In its privacy article, updated June 8, 2026, Meta says private messages are not used to train its AI unless a person chooses to share them with AI; messages shared with AI may be used to train AI. Review or download WhatsApp AI chat history before deleting it
If you may need a copy, download your history before deleting the Meta AI chat or your WhatsApp account. WhatsApp says deleting either prevents you from requesting or downloading that history.

Delete saved memory, if the feature is available to you
Meta has said users can delete memories that Meta AI retains to personalize responses. Its announcement described a staged rollout in the United States and Canada for iOS and Android, but that dated rollout statement does not confirm which controls are available to every user now.

Look in the Meta AI conversation or app for its current memory or information-management controls, and consult the relevant Meta help content for that product. Menu labels and availability may differ by account, location, platform, and app. Meta’s announcement does not provide universal, current menu-by-menu deletion steps. Read Meta’s announcement about personalized memory.
Use Incognito Chat for eligible future conversations
Meta announced Incognito Chat for WhatsApp and the Meta AI app as a temporary mode: the company said messages are not saved and disappear by default, and that chats are processed in a secure environment it says it cannot access. The announcement was dated May 13, 2026, and said the feature would roll out over the coming months. Check your current app to see whether Incognito Chat is available; the announcement does not establish that it is available to every account or in every region. What deletion does—and does not—establish
The documented controls address different things: /reset-ai deletes information shared in an AI chat; WhatsApp provides a way to download history and describes options to delete chats or request deletion of shared information; and Meta says saved memories can be deleted where the feature is available. The sources do not provide a complete cross-product account of what each deletion removes, how long every copy or derived detail may be retained, or what exceptions may apply. Do not treat one action as proof that every record has been erased; check the current help information for the specific app and account.
