Then visit the authenticated page, confirm the site recognizes the session, and take the screenshot. There is no documented direct import from Firefox’s cookies.sqlite file into Selenium, and cookies alone may not restore all of a site’s state.
Before you start: treat cookies as credentials
Firefox stores profile cookies in cookies.sqlite; Mozilla notes that cookies can hold login status as well as preferences. A session cookie may let someone access an account, so do this only for a site and account you are authorized to use. Do not publish, commit, or share cookie values.

The workflow below transfers selected cookies into WebDriver-compatible cookie objects. Selenium documents cookie operations, but the reviewed documentation does not describe a direct Firefox-database-to-WebDriver import bridge. Use an authorized cookie export method appropriate to your environment and preserve the attributes needed by the site.

Inject Firefox cookies into Selenium
1. Prepare the selected cookie objects
For each cookie, collect its name and value, plus applicable attributes such as domain, path, secure, httpOnly, expiry, and sameSite. WebDriver requires the name and value; the other fields are optional. Do not assume every cookie from a profile belongs to the target site or should be copied.

2. Visit a matching domain before adding cookies
Start Firefox through Selenium and navigate to a page on the cookie’s domain before calling add_cookie. Selenium’s documentation states: “First of all, you need to be on the domain that the cookie will be valid for.” A lightweight page on the same site can avoid loading the full target page prematurely.
3. Add cookies, visit the protected page, and capture
This Python example shows the WebDriver portion of the flow. Replace the example domain, page, and cookie values with values from an authorized export. The cookie list is deliberately local: do not put real session values in source control or logs.

If your installed Selenium version or Firefox driver exposes a different method signature, consult the API documentation for that version rather than assuming the example is version-independent.

A screenshot can be technically successful while showing a login page, an access-denied screen, or an incomplete account page. Check a page element or visible text that only appears after login before saving or processing the image. If the site redirects to sign-in, diagnose the session rather than treating the screenshot as proof that the cookies worked.

Cookie injection versus reusing a browser profile

The reviewed sources establish profile storage but do not provide an official, version-specific Selenium recipe for reusing a profile. Profile reuse also brings more browser state than a selected-cookie transfer. |
Cookie injection is useful when you want to transfer only the session information you have identified. A broader profile approach may carry other state, but it should not be treated as a documented direct substitute here; check the Selenium and Firefox guidance for the specific versions you run.
Why copied cookies may not restore the session
- Expired or rotated credentials: the site may have expired the cookie or invalidated the session since it was exported.
- Wrong domain or path: cookies are scoped. WebDriver rejects a cookie whose domain does not match the current document’s domain, and an incorrect path can keep it from applying to the intended URL.
- Security attributes: preserve applicable secure, HTTP-only, expiry, and same-site settings from the authorized export. A cookie’s value without its relevant scope and attributes may not behave as intended.
- State outside cookies: Firefox stores DOM storage separately from cookies. A web app may rely on that or other browser state, so copying cookies is not a complete profile migration.
- Site-specific authentication checks: the reviewed documentation does not guarantee that a copied cookie will satisfy a particular site’s login system. Verify the outcome on the authorized site.
Troubleshooting
WebDriver reports an invalid cookie domain
Open a page whose host matches the cookie’s domain before adding it. Check for mismatches such as a cookie scoped to a parent domain versus a different host, and avoid including a domain that the current document cannot accept. The WebDriver Add Cookie command fails on a domain mismatch.

The cookie is accepted, but the site still shows a login page
Confirm that the export is current, the cookie has not expired, and its domain and path cover the target URL. Check whether the application depends on DOM storage or other state that cookie injection does not copy. Re-authenticate through an authorized process if the site has invalidated the session.

First establish whether the browser itself rendered the expected authenticated page; a successful screenshot call does not establish that login succeeded. Wait for a page-specific element or other suitable readiness condition before capturing, and inspect the page URL and visible content when diagnosing.

Cookie values appear in logs or files
Remove exposed session values from logs, repositories, and shared artifacts, and invalidate or rotate the session if it may have been disclosed. Store secrets outside committed source code and limit access to the exported cookie data.
