To farm Metal Scraps, run the Scavenger camp and junk containers around Rookmore, then leave the area and rejoin your solo private world. That logout-and-rejoin method is documented for resetting Scavengers, searched junk and containers. Chest loot works differently: returning to the main menu does not force an immediate refill. Most ordinary chests require their fixed in-game cooldown to pass, followed by an area reload or a return visit.
Rookmore is the best named early-game route because it sits directly northwest of the starting area and concentrates Scavengers, camp furniture and searchable junk. Special ornate and story chests may be one-time-only or take much longer to return, so no single reset method or universal timer applies to every source.

What Metal Scraps are and where they come from
Metal Scraps are a Springlands crafting material. You cannot craft them at a station; they must be collected from the world. The main sources are Scavengers, searchable junk, destroyed metal objects and physical pickups.

Because the material is environmental, a reliable route and a repeatable reset matter more than finding a crafting recipe. If a guide shows Metal Scraps being made at a workbench, it is describing a different item or outdated information.

Why Rookmore is the best early-game farming route
Rookmore is directly northwest of the starting area. The ESO-UI item reference and the Official Enshrouded Wiki both point to the settlement and its surrounding Scavengers as a strong early-game source. The value is concentration: one trip can combine enemy drops, searchable camp objects, destructible containers and loose pickups instead of relying on one chest.
Prepare the route
- Leave enough inventory space for several small material drops. A full inventory can make a successful run appear unproductive because later items cannot be collected.
- Plan to clear both the enemies and the camp objects. Killing Scavengers alone leaves tables, benches and junk containers unsearched.
- If you are testing a reset, keep the route outside the active protected area of a base or Flame Altar. The cited reset description does not promise identical behavior inside every protected or multiplayer area.
- Use a consistent entry and exit point so you can tell whether a later visit is a genuine reset rather than an object you simply missed.
Run the Rookmore loop
- Travel to Rookmore. Approach from the starting region and note which camp sections you intend to clear.
- Defeat the Scavengers. Loot every defeated enemy before moving on. Enemy drops are one of the most consistent scrap sources in the area.
- Search camp furniture. Check tables, benches and other searchable objects in the Scavenger camp and settlement.
- Search junk-metal containers. Interact with every searchable junk pile or container rather than assuming all metal objects are destructible.
- Break eligible objects. Destroy boxes and linen containers that can be damaged, then pick up the resulting items.
- Collect loose pickups. Walk the edges of the camp and nearby paths for physical world spawns.
- Leave the area before resetting. Move far enough away that the location is no longer the active loaded area. Then use the reset procedure appropriate to your world type.
This route is deliberately broader than a chest run. It gives you several independent chances at Metal Scraps and makes a poor result easier to diagnose: an empty enemy drop does not also mean that every searchable object was empty.

The clearest documented reset is for a solo private game world: log out to the main menu and rejoin the same world. The ESO-UI reference describes this as a way to reset containers, searched junk and Scavenger enemies.

Solo private-world reset steps
- Complete the Rookmore loop and collect every visible drop.
- Travel away from Rookmore so the camp is no longer the immediately active area. Do not test the reset while standing inside the camp.
- Open the game menu and leave the private world to the main menu.
- Load the same private world again.
- Return to Rookmore and check the Scavengers, searched junk and containers using the same route order.
The logout is not a command that manufactures Metal Scraps. It causes the world to reload under the solo-private behavior described by the source. If a location remains unchanged, check the world context and the area position before concluding that the route is broken.
What this method does not establish
- It is not documented as a universal reset for dedicated servers.
- It is not guaranteed for every multiplayer configuration.
- It does not prove that objects inside a base or Flame Altar protection zone will behave exactly like an unprotected camp.
- It does not convert a one-time story object into a repeatable source.
For multiplayer or dedicated-server worlds, treat the solo logout method as unconfirmed rather than as a guaranteed server rule. A server may have its own persistence and reload behavior, and the cited references do not publish a command or administrator setting that forces all scrap sources to respawn.
How chest respawning actually works
Chests use a different persistence system from the solo scrap loop. The Official Enshrouded Wiki says that most chests respawn after a set amount of in-game time or when the area reloads. The Wake of Water update gives the important qualification: treasure chests save their state for a fixed amount of in-game time, so an emptied chest stays empty even when you return to the main menu and load the world again.

Reliable procedure for an ordinary chest
- Loot the chest and confirm that it is empty.
- Leave the chest area. A reload test is more meaningful when the location is no longer loaded around your character.
- Allow the required in-game period to pass. The game does not publish one universal duration for every chest.
- Return to the location so the area loads again.
- Open the chest only after the elapsed-time requirement and the area reload have both had an opportunity to occur.
Logging out and immediately loading back in can reload the world without resetting the chest’s saved state. That is why a chest can remain empty after a successful menu reload while a Scavenger camp may reset in a solo private-world test.
What the “30 minutes” claim means
Players commonly report an approximately 30-minute unloaded-area condition for some chest resets. That figure comes from community testing under specific conditions; it is not an official universal timer for every chest, enemy or container. Use it as a troubleshooting reference, not as a promise that every chest will refill exactly 30 minutes after looting.
The practical test is therefore conditional: leave the area unloaded for a substantial period, return after the suspected cooldown, and compare the result with another ordinary chest. Do not use one successful or failed 30-minute test to classify all chests in the game.

Chest types that may not reset normally
Ornate and story-related chests
Ornate chests and chests tied to story progression can be one-time-only or have substantially longer cooldowns. If an ornate or quest-linked chest stays empty through an area reload and a long wait, that behavior may be intentional rather than a failed reset. The ordinary-chest procedure is not evidence that every special chest is repeatable.
Wooden chests after version 1.0
The 1.0 update added more chests in early-game regions and changed the rewards found in wooden chests. Early-access videos can therefore show routes, chest counts or loot expectations that no longer match the 1.0 game. When following an older farming video, verify that it refers to the current 1.0 placement and reward tables before assuming a missing chest or different item is a bug.

Troubleshooting: why a reset has not worked
The Scavengers are still gone after rejoining
- Check the world type. The documented shortcut is specifically a solo private-world logout and rejoin. If you are on a dedicated server or in multiplayer, the source does not guarantee the same result.
- Leave the camp first. Resetting while remaining in the active area does not test the unload-and-reload behavior described for the route.
- Check protected-area interference. Move the test outside a base or Flame Altar’s active protected area when possible.
- Use the same route. A missing enemy can be a missed spawn position or an enemy that wandered, not proof that every source failed.
The searchable junk is still empty
Confirm that you are checking the same object rather than a nearby decorative prop. The listed sources distinguish searchable junk-metal containers from destructible boxes and linen containers. If the object was inside a protected or multiplayer area, repeat the test at an unprotected Rookmore object in a solo private world before drawing a broader conclusion.
A chest remains empty after a menu reload
- Do not treat the menu reload as an instant reset. The Wake of Water persistence rule explicitly keeps emptied chests empty until the fixed in-game period has elapsed.
- Leave the chest’s area unloaded, then return after more in-game time.
- Identify the chest type. Ornate and story-related chests can be one-time-only or slower than ordinary chests.
- Check the guide’s date. 1.0 changed early-game chest placement and wooden-chest rewards, so an early-access route may no longer match your world.
A Rookmore run yields fewer scraps than expected
Metal Scraps are spread across several source types, and no cited source promises a fixed quantity per visit. Make sure you defeated the Scavengers, searched the camp furniture, checked junk-metal containers, broke eligible boxes and linen containers, and collected loose pickups. A route that only opens one chest is not the documented Rookmore farming loop.

Choose the scrap loop when you need materials now
Use Rookmore when the goal is Metal Scraps rather than a particular chest reward. The route combines enemies and environmental sources, and the solo-private logout/rejoin method is the clearest documented way to repeat those checks.
Choose a chest route when you need chest-specific loot
Chest farming requires patience: record which chest you opened, leave the area, allow the in-game cooldown to pass and return later. A menu reload by itself is not a substitute for elapsed time. Treat special chests as uncertain until their behavior is established in your own world.
Keep version history in mind
If a video or map conflicts with what you see, first ask whether it predates version 1.0. Additional early-game chests and changed wooden-chest rewards can make an old route appear wrong even when your game is functioning normally.
Bottom line
Farm Metal Scraps at Rookmore by combining Scavenger kills, searchable camp junk, destructible containers and world pickups. For a solo private world, leave the camp and log out and back in to test the documented reset for Scavengers and searched containers. For treasure chests, wait for the fixed in-game cooldown and reload the area; do not expect an immediate refill from returning to the menu. Ornate and story chests, multiplayer worlds and older pre-1.0 guides require separate caution.
