For the sharpest resize, start with the original vector logo—usually an SVG, AI, EPS, or vector PDF—and export a copy at the size your destination needs. If you only have a PNG or JPEG, keep its proportions, use the largest clean source available, and avoid enlarging it beyond its pixel detail. Resampling can change pixel dimensions, but it cannot restore detail the original file never contained.
Start by identifying what kind of logo file you have
Vector artwork is built from paths and shapes rather than a fixed grid of pixels. Adobe says vector images can be scaled to any size without losing quality; that statement applies to the vector artwork, not to raster images.

- Common vector files: SVG, AI, EPS, and vector PDF. These are generally the best sources for resizing.
- Common raster files: PNG and JPEG. Their detail is limited by their pixel dimensions.
- PDF or SVG: Neither extension alone guarantees that the logo is vector. A PDF can contain raster images, and an SVG can contain embedded raster content. Inspect the artwork or ask the designer or brand owner for the original vector file.
If you have only a small PNG or JPEG, ask for the original artwork before trying to make a much larger version. When a platform needs a raster image, export a fresh PNG or JPEG from the vector source at the required dimensions rather than enlarging an old raster copy.

Choose the dimensions for the destination
Find out what the website, app, document, or printer requires before resizing. For screen use, the important output measurement is usually pixel width and height. For print, consider both the physical size and the resolution in pixels per inch (PPI).

Adobe describes the relationship as physical size = pixel dimensions ÷ resolution. Changing the PPI value with resampling off changes the physical size represented by the existing pixels; it does not add pixels or image detail. Resampling, by contrast, changes the pixel dimensions by adding or removing pixels.

These are Adobe’s general recommendations, not universal requirements. The receiving platform or print provider’s specifications take precedence.

Resize a logo in Photoshop
- Open the source and check its content. Photoshop can work with both vector and raster content. A document may combine them, so do not assume that every element will remain scalable when exported.
- Open Image Size. Set the required output dimensions. Keep the width and height proportions linked so the logo does not stretch or compress.
- Choose whether to resample. For a raster logo whose pixel dimensions must change, enable resampling. For print, set the intended physical dimensions and PPI together; for screen, prioritize the requested pixel dimensions.
- Select a resampling method if needed. Photoshop’s Automatic option chooses a method based on enlargement or reduction. Preserve Details 2.0 is intended for enlargement, and Bicubic Sharper for reduction. These settings affect how pixels are calculated; they do not recreate missing source detail.
- Export in a format the destination accepts. Use an SVG where vector artwork is supported, or a raster format such as PNG or JPEG if the destination requires one. Check the platform’s own file requirements.
- Inspect the exported file at its intended size. Check edges and fine details, and view transparency against the backgrounds where the logo will appear.
Adobe’s guidance says to resample only once because repeated resampling compounds quality loss. Keep an untouched copy of the original and make later exports from it rather than repeatedly resizing an already resized file.

If you must resize a raster logo
A PNG or JPEG has fixed pixel dimensions. Reducing it discards pixels, while enlarging it requires software to estimate new ones. Reduction is generally more manageable than enlargement, but either operation changes the pixel data. Make one resize from the best-quality original and inspect the result at the final display or print size.

Photoshop’s documented resampling choices include:

These are Photoshop-specific choices. The visible result depends on the source, artwork, target size, and final viewing conditions. No interpolation method can make a low-resolution raster file equivalent to original vector artwork.

Pick an export format that fits the use

Photoshop documents export options including PNG, JPG, GIF, and SVG. The receiving platform’s requirements should determine the final format and dimensions.

Why a resized logo can look blurry
- The source is too small: Enlarging a raster logo requires estimated pixels and can soften edges or create artifacts.
- The proportions changed: Entering width and height independently can stretch or compress the design. Keep them linked when resizing.
- The PPI changed, but pixel dimensions did not: A new PPI value alone does not add image detail.
- The file was resized repeatedly: Repeated resampling compounds quality loss. Return to the original for a new export.
- The file is not truly vector: An SVG or PDF extension does not rule out embedded raster artwork.
- The export format or settings affected edges: Lossy JPEG compression can introduce artifacts; inspect the final file at its intended size and background.
Which resizing approach should you use?
- Vector source and any target size: Resize the vector artwork, then export in a format the destination supports.
- Raster source and a smaller target: Keep proportions, resize once, and inspect the result.
- Raster source and a larger target: Look first for the original vector file or a higher-resolution raster source. If neither is available, resample once and expect that sharpness may be limited.
- Print output: Work from the intended physical dimensions and the printer’s PPI requirements; do not treat a PPI change alone as added resolution.
