The PIN is stored by the Samsung TV, not by its small remote. If you have never changed it, try 0000. If you changed it and cannot remember it, use the reset sequence that matches your TV’s model, region, and remote. Samsung’s instructions differ, so there is no single sequence guaranteed to work on every set.
What the Samsung TV PIN is—and where to start
A Samsung TV PIN is a four-digit security code used for protected TV functions, including some app installations and system settings. It is not a code kept inside the remote. If you are being asked for a PIN and have never set a different one, try 0000, which Samsung lists as the default and reset PIN in its support guidance.

If 0000 is rejected, the PIN may have been changed. Use the appropriate reset instructions below rather than repeatedly guessing.
Reset a forgotten PIN with the remote
Turn on the TV first. Samsung publishes different button sequences for different regions and remote layouts; follow the instructions for your model rather than combining them.

2025 Samsung TVs: US instructions
- With the TV on, press Volume +/- > Volume Up > Return > Volume Down > Return > Volume Up > Return on the remote.
- When the TV prompts you, enter 0000.
Samsung says this sequence resets the PIN to 0000 for the 2025 TVs covered by its US guidance. See Samsung’s US instructions for changing a TV PIN.
Samsung UK instructions: Smart Remote
- With the TV on, press Volume.
- Press +, then Return, then –, then Return, then +, then Return.
- Enter 0000 when prompted.
This is the Smart Remote sequence in Samsung UK’s guidance. Button labels and on-screen prompts can vary by model and software version.

Samsung UK instructions: standard remote
- With the TV on, press Mute.
- Press +, then Return, then –, then Return, then +, then Return.
- Enter 0000 when prompted.
Samsung UK documents this separately from the Smart Remote sequence. Consult Samsung UK’s PIN instructions if your remote or TV differs from these descriptions.

On the 2025 US models covered by Samsung’s instructions, open Home > Settings > All Settings > General & Privacy > Change PIN. Enter the current PIN, then enter the new four-digit PIN twice. This route requires knowing the current PIN; if it is forgotten, reset it first.

If the sequence does not work
- Check the remote layout. The US and UK guidance is not identical, and Smart Remote and standard remote directions differ. For another model year or region, check the user manual for the exact TV model or contact Samsung support.
- Pair the Smart Remote if the TV does not respond. Samsung UK says to hold Return and Play/Pause together for at least three seconds, until a connection message appears. Menu names and screens may vary with model and software version.
- Confirm which device is asking. If the prompt appears inside an app or comes from a set-top box, its parental-control PIN may be separate from the TV’s PIN. Contact the app or device provider for that code.
Why a factory reset is not the same fix
A factory reset is not a PIN-reset shortcut: Samsung UK warns that it removes Samsung accounts and downloaded apps. Use the model-appropriate PIN procedure first. If the remote sequence remains unsuccessful, consult Samsung for the exact model rather than resetting the whole TV as a substitute.
