If your ASUS laptop won’t turn on, first check whether any power indicator appears. No indicator points to a power-delivery problem; a power light with a blank screen calls for display and startup checks instead. Try the steps for your symptom, then follow your exact model’s ASUS manual or support page for any reset or BIOS recovery procedure.
First, identify the symptom
Look for a charging or power light, fan activity, keyboard illumination, startup sound, or ASUS logo. Indicator behavior varies by product, so check your model’s manual if you are unsure what a light means. ASUS separates troubleshooting for a laptop with no power indication from a laptop that appears to start but shows no image.

| What you observe | Where to start |
|---|---|
| No power or charging indicator | Check the outlet, adapter, cable, and connections; then consider the model-appropriate EC/RTC reset. |
| Power indicator on, screen blank | Follow the no-display checks. If the problem began during or after a BIOS update, use the model-specific BIOS recovery instructions. |
If there is no power light
Check the power source and adapter
- Connect the adapter directly to a working wall outlet. If you are using an extension cord or power strip, check that it is switched on or temporarily remove it from the setup.
- Firmly reconnect the power cable and adapter at both ends. Check the adapter, cable, and connectors for looseness or visible damage.
- Use the original adapter or one that meets the specifications for your ASUS model. ASUS cautions that adapters are not necessarily interchangeable between its products because their output specifications can differ.
- Disconnect USB devices, memory cards, docks, and other external accessories, then try powering on again.
If the battery is removable, reseat it according to the laptop’s manual. Do not try to remove a built-in battery. ASUS notes that a device or battery left unused or uncharged for a while may be left connected to power overnight before trying again. If the adapter or cable is visibly damaged, stop using it and contact an ASUS service center about service or a suitable replacement.

An EC/RTC reset is a hardware reset involving the embedded controller and real-time clock; it is not a Windows factory reset and does not reinstall Windows. ASUS’s general instructions call for disconnecting external devices, turning the laptop off, connecting the power adapter, and holding the power button. The required hold time varies by model, so verify the instructions for your exact laptop before proceeding.

ASUS describes both a 40-second design and a supported 20-second variant. On the 20-second design, the indicator rapidly flashes after 15 seconds for about 3–5 seconds; release the button after the flashing stops. Do not assume either timing applies to every ASUS laptop. Use the reset instructions in the model’s official manual or ASUS support page.
If the power light is on but the screen is blank
A power indicator means this is not the same symptom as having no power indication. Use ASUS’s no-display troubleshooting path rather than assuming that the laptop is dead.

- Press Windows + Ctrl + Shift + B to try resetting the display driver.
- Disconnect peripherals and cards, then check whether the display returns.
- Consider whether the problem began after memory or storage was changed. Consult ASUS support or a qualified service provider rather than opening the laptop based only on a blank screen.
- Follow the EC/RTC reset instructions for your exact model if appropriate.
If the screen went blank during or after a BIOS update, treat that as a separate recovery situation. Use the instructions for the exact laptop model; do not apply BIOS recovery steps to every black-screen problem.
BIOS recovery: only for certain update failures
ASUS documents recovery procedures for certain failed BIOS-update cases, and the process depends on the model and what appears on screen. Some cases may resolve through an automatic update, while others can require a USB flash drive formatted as FAT32 and the BIOS file for the exact model. A USB drive alone is not sufficient: the file must match the laptop.

If the power and display checks and the model-specific reset do not solve the problem, contact ASUS customer service or an ASUS service center. The symptom alone cannot establish whether the fault is the adapter, battery, display, motherboard, or another component. Your exact model, charger specifications, warranty status, and history of recent BIOS or hardware changes affect the next step. Find the model’s manual and support options through ASUS Support.
