On LinkedIn, use the profile’s More → Report / Block menu. On X, report from the account profile if you are a bystander, or use the Help Center if you are the person being impersonated or an authorized representative. In Gmail or Outlook.com, report the message as phishing. These reports can prompt review, but they do not guarantee removal.
Report an impersonating LinkedIn profile
- Open the suspicious member’s profile.
- Select More or the More icon, then choose Report / Block.
- Select the option to report the member or the entire account.
- Choose This person is impersonating someone and submit the report.
LinkedIn says the reported member will not know who filed the report. It says it takes action when a profile violates its policies, but does not promise a particular outcome or response time. See LinkedIn’s guidance on reporting fake profiles.

Impersonation warning signs can include a profile posing as a public figure or company executive, duplicate profiles, requests for money or sensitive information, or attempts to move a conversation off LinkedIn. An incomplete profile by itself does not prove that the account is fake.

Report an impersonating account on X
- If you are being impersonated, or represent the person: Submit an impersonation report through the X Help Center.
- If you are reporting someone else’s account: Open the account’s profile and use its report option.
X says you do not need an X account to report impersonation. It investigates valid reports; an account found to violate its misleading and deceptive identities policy may be suspended or asked to change. An impersonation report is separate from a verification request.

Report a phishing or impersonation email
Gmail
Open the message, select More, then Report phishing. Google says that when you manually report a message as phishing or move it to Spam, it receives a copy of the email and attachments and may analyze them to help protect users. See Google’s instructions for reporting phishing emails.
Outlook.com
Select the message, choose Report, then Report phishing. Reporting the sender does not block future messages; blocking is a separate action. See Microsoft’s Outlook.com reporting instructions.
An email pretending to be from LinkedIn
Forward the suspicious email to [email protected]. If the suspected phishing message arrived inside LinkedIn, open its More menu, choose Report/Block, and select the spam or scam option. LinkedIn says authentic messages include a security footer with your name and professional headline, but that footer alone does not prove a message is legitimate. Verify by opening LinkedIn directly rather than following links in the email. See LinkedIn’s guidance on identifying and reporting suspicious messages.
An email pretending to be another person or business
Start with your email provider’s phishing control. The U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) also recommends forwarding phishing email to [email protected]. For an organization dealing with spoofed business email, the FTC advises notifying affected customers and reporting the scam. See the FTC’s advice on recognizing and avoiding phishing scams.

Keep the report factual: identify the account or message, state whose identity it claims, and add relevant context. Follow the platform’s form for any details it requests. Do not assume that filing a report guarantees removal or a particular review time.
- Do not click links, download attachments, or enter credentials in a suspicious message.
- Reach the service through its known app or by typing its official address yourself.
- If money or sensitive information was sent, or an account was accessed, report the incident through the platform and the appropriate authority in your location.
In the United States, consumers can report a scam at ReportFraud.ftc.gov. If someone stole personal information such as a Social Security number, bank account, or card number, the FTC directs people to IdentityTheft.gov for a recovery plan. These are U.S. resources; use the relevant authority in your country elsewhere.
