If you find a scam or deceptive impersonation on a Discord server, report the specific message that shows it—not just the server name. In Discord, select that message, choose Report Message, and pick the abuse type that best fits. If you clicked a suspicious link or think someone accessed your account, secure or recover the account separately.
Report the message that shows the scam or impersonation
- Find the message that demonstrates the deceptive or harmful conduct. Discord’s impersonation guidance directs users to report the specific message where the impersonation occurs.
- Select the message, choose Report Message, then select the type of abuse. Discord describes this flow in its compromised-account help article. Button names and placement can change, so follow the current in-app prompts if they differ.
- If the app offers a way to include or copy the message link, keep it with your report. Discord’s parent and guardian reporting guidance explains that a message link can be copied by holding the message on iOS or Android, or by right-clicking it on desktop. That article is written for parents and guardians; for other reports, use the evidence fields and instructions shown in the app.
Reporting the message gives Discord a concrete example to review. The server name alone may not show what happened, and Discord’s impersonation guidance specifically asks for the message where the conduct takes place.

Report the content, but don’t mass-report it
Make a report only when you have a genuine concern. Discord warns against false or malicious reports, duplicate reports about the same issue, and asking a group to report the same content. Repeated violations can result in losing access to reporting functions, according to its reporting guidance.
You can also leave the server or block the account if you do not want further contact. Those steps can reduce exposure, but they do not replace reporting the specific message to Discord.

If you clicked a link or suspect your account was accessed
A content report does not secure a compromised account. If you entered a password or account token, approved an unfamiliar app, or otherwise suspect unauthorized access, stop engaging with the suspected scammer and take account-security steps. Discord’s compromised-account guidance recommends:
- Reset your Discord password.
- Enable multi-factor authentication.
- Review authorized apps and remove any you do not recognize.
- If you use Windows, run a Windows Defender scan, as Discord’s guidance recommends.
If you cannot access the account or need help recovering it, use the account-support route in Discord’s compromised-account article. Keep this recovery issue separate from the report about the scam message.

Check whether a message claiming to be Discord is genuine
Discord says it will never ask for your password or account token. A message that asks you to share either should not be trusted, even if the sender claims to be support. See Discord’s official-message guidance for how genuine official messages are identified: they carry an OFFICIAL badge in the member list and DM, and an official-message notice at the start of the conversation. Discord says these messages cannot be answered through the normal chat input.

When a trademark complaint is different
If you are an individual, group, or organization being deceptively or harmfully impersonated, use the message-reporting flow above. A username that resembles a trademark, by itself, is not automatically trademark infringement under Discord’s impersonation guidance. Trademark holders considering a separate complaint should be prepared to identify specific commercial or misleading use, rather than relying only on a similar name.
