Keep the application or grievance reference so you can track it and follow up with the appropriate election official.
Check whether your name is on the current voter list
Search the electoral roll through the Election Commission of India’s Voter Service Portal or the Voter Helpline App. ECI also lists 1950 as a way to check registration status. You can find your constituency’s current instructions and services on the portal.

A voter ID card (EPIC) alone does not establish that your name appears on the current roll. ECI states: “You can vote only if your name appears in the Voter List (also known as Electoral Roll).” See ECI’s How to Vote page.

Use the registration or correction form for the underlying electoral-roll issue. A separate grievance is useful when you need an official to investigate a service or application problem.

These form purposes are listed in ECI’s voter registration FAQ. Follow the live portal instructions for your constituency, since available services and processes can be state-specific.
Submitting Form 6 offline
ECI says Form 6 can be filed online, delivered in person to the ERO/AERO, sent by post, or handed to the area BLO. It also says Form 6 is available free from ERO/AERO and BLO offices. This offline guidance is specific to Form 6; check with the relevant election office for the requirements for other forms or a grievance.
File a grievance when a form or service needs attention
On ECI’s Voter Service Portal, choose “Register Complaint/Share Suggestion.” The portal’s National Grievance Services Portal description says a complaint is assigned to the appropriate election official for investigation. The complaint is recorded in your user profile, and its reference ID is sent to your registered mobile number and email. You can use the portal to track the response.

A grievance does not replace the relevant form. For example, if an existing entry needs correction, submit Form 8; if you also need an official to investigate a delay or service issue, file a complaint as well.
Track the case and follow up with an official
- Save your records. Keep the complaint reference or application number, submission date, and copies of supporting documents.
- Check status on the portal. ECI’s portal provides application-status tracking and complaint tracking.
- Contact the responsible election office if needed. The portal offers a “Book a Call with BLO” service. You can also contact the relevant ERO/AERO or BLO about the case.
- Check the applicable appeal route. The portal provides appeal links, but the applicable route depends on the issue; confirm it with the relevant election office rather than assuming one process covers every complaint.
Use helplines carefully, and do not assume a fixed deadline
ECI lists 1950 for voter-registration assistance. Its October 29, 2025 press note gives the National Contact Centre number as 1800-11-1950 and says it operated daily from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM at the time of that notice. The same note says the National Voter Helpline and all 36 State and District-level helplines were activated. These are dated operational details, so check the ECI portal for current hours and the right state or local contact before relying on them. ECI’s grievance description says officials must respond within a “specified time period,” but it does not state one nationwide deadline. Do not assume a particular complaint will be resolved within a set number of days; ask the relevant election office about the procedure for your case.
