To report a privacy or safety problem on Instagram, open the specific post, comment, message or account and use its Report option. Choose the closest matching reason and explain what happened. The right route can differ for impersonation, harassment, harmful messages and privacy-sensitive content; Instagram’s Help Center has issue-specific guidance for these cases.
Choose the reporting route that matches the problem
Start with the content or account involved rather than making a general report. Meta says reporting links appear on nearly every piece of content. For issue-specific guidance, the Australian eSafety Commissioner’s Instagram eSafety Guide links to Instagram resources for reporting posts, comments, messages or chats, impersonation, harassment or bullying, and defamation.

Submit a report
- Open the relevant item. Go to the post, comment, message or chat, or account connected to the problem, then look for Instagram’s Report option. If the issue needs a specialist route, use the matching Help Center resource linked from the eSafety Commissioner’s Instagram guide.
- Choose the closest available reason. Categories can vary by issue. Describe what happened accurately; if you are unsure whether a policy was violated, explain the privacy or safety concern without presenting an uncertain claim as fact.
- Send the report using the prompts shown. The available official guidance confirms issue-specific reporting resources exist, but does not establish every screen, label or evidence requirement. Follow the options Instagram presents for your report.
Limit contact while you address the problem
Reporting and contact controls serve different purposes. Meta’s Safety Center guidance on tools to stay safe describes blocking and restricting as ways to manage interactions. Restricting can limit what someone sees about your online and read status; their new comments are visible only to them unless you approve them. Comment controls and hidden-word settings can also reduce unwanted exposure.

Use the control that fits the situation: blocking is an option when you want to stop interacting with an account, while restricting can limit how that person’s activity appears without making their new comments visible to everyone. These controls do not replace submitting a report about content or conduct.
Check a report’s status when the option is available
Instagram’s Help Center has guidance indicating that some reports can be viewed under Support Requests, where a person may see the date and decision and, for some decisions, request a review. The indexed guidance is in Turkish, and not every report is shown; some report types do not offer a review option. Treat Support Requests as a possible follow-up route, not a universal status tracker or appeal path.

What to expect after reporting
Meta says its teams review reported content and remove material that violates its policies. The available guidance does not establish a general review time, guarantee removal, or promise a particular response to the person who reported it. Whether action is taken depends on Instagram’s policy assessment.
