As of October 7, 2026, Microsoft has not confirmed an Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 3 in the official materials checked. Series 2 is the documented choice for buyers who need a controller now; reports of Series 3 features remain unconfirmed leaks. If your decision depends on those rumored upgrades, wait for Microsoft’s specifications, price and compatibility details before spending.
Is the Xbox Elite Series 3 confirmed?
No official Series 3 product page or announcement appeared in the Microsoft materials checked as of October 7, 2026. The latest report cited here, published by Windows Central on October 6, describes alleged Xbox Design Lab data shared through a Reddit post and warns readers to treat it cautiously. That is not a Microsoft specification sheet: Windows Central’s Series 3 leak report.

An official catalog not listing a product does not establish Microsoft’s future plans. It does mean there is no confirmed Series 3 specification, price, release date, compatibility statement, battery rating, warranty or repair policy to use for a definitive comparison. The Microsoft Store Xbox accessories catalog surfaced Series 2, not an official Series 3 listing.
What the Series 3 leak reports claim—and what remains unknown
Windows Central’s October 6 report attributes possible features to leaked data, not a confirmed product announcement. It describes alleged TMR/Hall-effect thumbstick options, selectable stick tension, advanced haptics, silent-stick options, an audio scroll wheel, and additional paddle, D-pad and package configurations. None should be treated as a final feature or advantage until Microsoft confirms it.

An earlier Windows Central report dated May 14, 2026, described leaked images showing scroll wheels, a local/cloud mode switch, direct Wi-Fi cloud connectivity and a user-replaceable battery. Those image-based claims are also unconfirmed; the report is available at Windows Central’s May 2026 leak coverage. The later report does not turn either set of rumors into official specifications.
What is confirmed about the Elite Series 2?
Microsoft documents the Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 as offering adjustable-tension thumbsticks, interchangeable components, shorter hair-trigger locks, a wrap-around rubberized grip and custom button mapping. It supports up to three custom profiles plus one default profile through the Xbox Accessories app. Microsoft lists Xbox Wireless, Bluetooth and the included USB-C cable as connection options, subject to device support. Microsoft advertises up to 40 hours of rechargeable battery life. That is a manufacturer figure, not an independent test result; actual battery life varies with use, accessories and other factors. Xbox says the controller works with Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. PC connection is available over Bluetooth or USB-C, and Xbox’s FAQ also lists Bluetooth support for iOS and Android with device and version limitations; some functions may not be supported on every device.

The Series 2 name covers different package contents, so compare the exact SKU rather than assuming every listing includes the same accessories. Xbox describes Core as including core components, with the Complete Component Pack sold separately. The full package includes additional components such as thumbsticks and rear paddles, plus a carrying case.

What to compare if Microsoft announces Series 3
Once official specifications are available, compare these details against the Series 2 and your own setup rather than treating leak claims as a reason to upgrade:

Should you buy a Series 2 now or wait?
Buy or keep the Series 2 if you need a controller now
Its features, supported connections and package choices are documented, so you can judge it on the functions you will use and the exact package and price offered. Existing Series 2 owners can also check whether a Complete Component Pack supplies the parts they want before replacing the controller.
Wait if your decision hinges on Series 3 rumors
If TMR or Hall-effect sticks, a user-replaceable battery, cloud connectivity or other rumored features are essential to you, wait for Microsoft to confirm the product and publish final details. Then look for independent hands-on testing before deciding whether any changes justify upgrading; no independent comparative test or quantified Series 3 improvement is established by the cited coverage.
