If a Grok answer is harmful or misleading, the right reporting route depends on where it appears. For Grok on X in Australia, X documents a direct report route for illegal or restricted content: click the thumbs-down control on the generated response and choose the most applicable category. For other answers and regions, the general Grok guidance describes thumbs-down as voluntary feedback, not necessarily a formal policy report. If the answer was published as an X post, report that post separately.
Report an answer inside Grok
X’s published steps for reporting illegal or restricted content in Grok on X apply specifically to Australia. Outside that documented case, use the feedback or reporting controls actually shown on the Grok response. X’s general About Grok page describes thumbs-up and thumbs-down as voluntary conversation feedback. It does not establish a universal report menu or category for every ordinary inaccurate, harmful, or misleading answer in every region or Grok interface.
Choose a category that accurately fits what happened. A factual mistake is not automatically a violation of X’s rules; X’s general reporting guidance concerns potential violations of its Rules or Terms. Grok may confidently provide incorrect information, missummarize, or miss context, so independently verify consequential claims rather than relying on a report to establish what is true.

If the answer is also a public X post
- Open the post containing the Grok answer.
- Select the post’s options icon.
- Choose “Report post” and follow the prompts, selecting the closest applicable reason.
This flags the public post itself for review; it is a separate action from giving feedback on the answer inside Grok. X says reporting a post does not automatically suspend the account, and a report does not guarantee that the post will be removed. See X’s instructions for reporting a post.
What happens after you submit a report?
X says it acknowledges properly submitted violation reports within 24 hours. It says reports are typically resolved within a few days, though some can take up to 30 days depending on factors such as whether user input or an appeal is needed. These are X’s stated service timeframes, not guaranteed deadlines; depending on the report type, you may or may not receive an outcome. Details are in X’s report-violations guidance.

Consider privacy before sending feedback
X says a thumbs-down submission may share the conversation and related data with X and xAI for model training and fine-tuning, even if you have opted out of model training. Avoid including personal, sensitive, or confidential information in Grok conversations. X also says you can control Grok personalization in X settings and delete conversation history; deleted conversations are removed from its systems within 30 days unless retention is needed for security or legal reasons. See About Grok and Grok data retention.
