Google Fitbit Edge has a user-replaceable rechargeable battery, but Google recommends professional repair unless you are an adult with technical experience repairing electronics. The official material confirms the battery’s identity and safety risks, but does not provide a Fitbit Edge-specific replacement procedure. Check Google’s repair resource and local parts and service availability before attempting any repair.
Should you replace the battery yourself?
Choose professional repair if you are not an adult with relevant electronics-repair experience, or if you cannot confirm that current instructions and genuine parts are available for your region. Google warns that opening or repairing the device can cause electric shock, damage, fire, personal injury, and other hazards. It also warns that unauthorized repairs or modifications could permanently damage the device and may affect warranty coverage or regulatory authorizations.

What battery does Fitbit Edge use?
Google identifies the built-in battery as a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, model ID GG7P2. Google lists its capacity as 65 mAh in the safety guide and 65 mAh typical in the technical specifications. Use GG7P2 as an identifier when asking Google or a service provider about parts; the model number alone does not establish that a third-party listing is compatible or that the battery is sold directly to consumers.

Google describes the battery as user-replaceable and says it should only be replaced to extend the product’s life. See the Google Store product information and official Fitbit Edge safety and regulatory guide.
When not to open the tracker
If the battery may be swollen
Do not press the cover back into place, pry open the enclosure, try to remove the battery, or attempt a repair. Google specifically advises against self-repair of a swollen battery and says to contact Google support.

If you cannot follow verified instructions
Do not improvise an opening or replacement method. Google’s safety guide directs users to g.co/repair, but the reviewed official sources do not provide a Fitbit Edge-specific procedure. Without instructions that match your device and region, use professional service rather than adapting steps for another wearable.

- Use an authentic Google replacement part where available; Google warns that a non-qualified battery can create hazards.
- Do not modify, puncture, expose the battery to liquid, burn it, or excessively heat it.
- Do not open, crush, or incinerate the device or battery, or heat it above 113°F (45°C).
- Keep the lithium-ion battery away from situations where it could be damaged or ingested; Google warns that damage or ingestion can cause injury.
- Follow local environmental and transport rules for disposal. Do not put the device or battery in ordinary household waste.
A precision electronics tool kit is only a general optional category for a qualified repairer, not a Google-verified requirement or approved kit. Google’s reviewed documentation does not specify required tools, adhesive-removal methods, sealing instructions, or post-repair tests.

Before you arrange repair
- Check Google’s repair resource at g.co/repair for current instructions and options that apply to your region.
- If instructions or parts are unavailable, contact Google or a Google service provider and ask whether they can service Fitbit Edge locally.
- If discussing a replacement battery, provide the identifier GG7P2, but ask the provider to confirm compatibility rather than relying on a seller’s claim.
- If the enclosure appears swollen or damaged, leave it unopened and contact Google support.
