First check whether your eSIM line is still listed on your iPhone. If it is, make sure it is turned on and try Apple’s basic service checks. If the line is missing or service still will not return, connect to Wi-Fi and contact your carrier: the carrier must determine whether it can restore the existing line or needs to issue a replacement eSIM.
Check whether the eSIM line is still on your iPhone
Open Settings > Cellular. Depending on your region or software version, this section may be called Mobile Service or Mobile Data. Look for the affected number or line.

- If the line appears: Open it and check that Turn On This Line is enabled. If it was off, turn it on and check whether service returns.
- If the line is absent: Apple advises contacting your carrier. The carrier can check the account and explain how to restore the line. Apple’s guidance for SOS, No Service, or Searching covers this situation.
Try Apple’s basic checks before requesting a replacement
If the line is present but shows SOS, No Service, or Searching, work through these device-side checks:

- Turn Airplane Mode on, wait a few seconds, then turn it off.
- In Settings > Cellular (or Mobile Service/Mobile Data), turn the affected line off and back on.
- Restart the iPhone.
- Check for a carrier settings update: open Settings > General > About and wait briefly for an update prompt.
- Install any available iOS update.
Apple lists these checks in its guidance for setting up an eSIM and for SOS, No Service, or Searching. If the line remains unavailable after these steps, contact the carrier rather than deleting the eSIM as a routine troubleshooting measure.

Contact the carrier to restore or replace the eSIM
Connect to Wi-Fi or a hotspot before starting. Apple says a Wi-Fi connection is needed for eSIM setup in most cases, though some eSIM-only iPhone models have regional exceptions. Tell the carrier that the line has lost service and whether it still appears in Settings. Ask whether the carrier can re-provision the current eSIM or whether you need a new activation.
The carrier controls the account and provisioning process. It may need to verify your identity or account eligibility, and the exact replacement steps and timing depend on the carrier, plan, and region. Apple’s general instructions do not establish that a previously used QR code can be reused; ask the carrier for a current activation method.

Choose the activation method your carrier supports
Apple documents several ways to activate an eSIM. Which ones are available depends on your carrier and circumstances.

Confirm that service has returned
Once activation completes, check the status bar for cellular service and place a call. If it still fails, give the carrier the exact message shown on screen and ask it to check account eligibility, provisioning, coverage, and outages. If the carrier finds no account or network issue and suspects an iPhone hardware problem, Apple directs users toward device service.
