First identify whether the call is in your Flutter app’s Dart layer or its Android host/plugin layer; then choose a logger for that language and decide whether messages should appear in release builds.
First identify which code owns the call
A Flutter project can contain both Dart code and native Android Kotlin code, but they are separate language environments. A widget or Dart service calling debugPrint(...) cannot invoke android.util.Log or a Kotlin logging facade. Changing the native logger does not change Dart call sites.

Flutter defines debugPrint as a Dart callback property, whose default implementation is debugPrintThrottled. Flutter notes that it can log to the console even in release mode. Its default throttling is intended to help avoid data loss on rate-limited platforms such as Android. Replacing it may therefore change how much output is emitted and how messages are delivered. Flutter’s debugPrint API documentation and DebugPrintCallback documentation describe these behaviors.
If the call is in Dart, keep Dart logging in Dart
Keep debugPrint when its behavior suits the app
If you want Flutter console output and its default throttling, there is no need to replace debugPrint. If the message is intended only for development, guard it explicitly; the API itself can print in release mode.

Use dart:developer log for categorized Dart messages
Flutter documents dart:developer’s log() as a Dart-side alternative when you want more logging granularity and a category name. It is not Kotlin logging. Check its console and DevTools behavior in your app before changing call sites, and keep an explicit release policy for development-only messages. Flutter’s log() API documentation describes the Dart API.

If the call is in Kotlin Android code, use a native Kotlin-side logger
Use Android’s built-in Log API
In Kotlin Android source, android.util.Log accepts a tag, message, and—where relevant—an optional throwable. Tags identify a message’s source, and Android provides level-specific methods. A schematic example:

Use kotlin-logging only with a configured backend
kotlin-logging is a Kotlin-style facade over SLF4J, not a complete logging destination by itself. A project using it needs the suitable facade artifact and a compatible runtime SLF4J implementation; configure that backend’s output and levels as well. The facade supports lazy message lambdas, but dependency coordinates and versions depend on the project’s Kotlin, Android, and SLF4J compatibility. Check the kotlin-logging project documentation rather than copying a universal dependency recipe.
Choose between the options by execution layer

Another project-specific option is Klogging, described by its project as pure Kotlin. Its README states that Android SDK 24 or higher is required, so check that constraint and its features against your app before choosing it. Klogging’s project README provides its stated requirements.

Preserve the behaviors that matter when migrating
- Release visibility: Decide whether the message belongs in release builds. Because
debugPrintcan emit in release mode, retain a debug guard when that is the intended policy. - Throttling: Decide whether Flutter’s default rate limiting is important. A direct call to another logger does not establish equivalent throttling.
- Severity and exceptions: Map message levels deliberately. Android’s API accepts a throwable; with a facade, use its supported exception or cause form and verify the backend handles it as expected.
- Destination and filtering: Set the output destination and level policy. Android exposes loggability controls; a Kotlin facade delegates implementation and level configuration to its backend.
- Data safety: Keep secrets and unnecessary user-specific values out of diagnostic messages.
Check project compatibility before adding Kotlin dependencies
There is no single verified Kotlin logging package or version for every Flutter project. Before choosing one, check its Kotlin/JVM or multiplatform target, your Android minimum SDK, the logging backend already in use, and the project’s build configuration. The title alone does not identify those project details, so a universal Gradle dependency declaration would be unreliable.
