If you still choose DIY
Use only the replacement instructions for your exact model or module; do not treat instructions for another G-SHOCK as interchangeable. The cited Casio guidance does not provide one procedure that applies to every G-SHOCK. A case-back opener kit can help with opening a case, but tools do not establish that the watch is water resistant after it is closed. If the manual does not give a model-specific procedure, or you cannot arrange a suitable water-resistance check afterward, use a qualified service provider instead.
Water resistance depends on the seal and the watch’s condition
The battery change and the water-resistance check are separate matters. A gasket can age, and reassembly alone does not demonstrate that the case seals correctly. Casio’s module 5733 guidance gives a general gasket-replacement interval of about every two or three years, and says diver’s-watch gaskets should be replaced regularly, once every two years. Casio Singapore advises gasket replacement at least every 18 months. These are Casio maintenance recommendations from different sources, not a guarantee that a watch remains water resistant until the stated interval or that every model follows one universal schedule.

Before using the watch in water, check the water-resistance marking on your own watch and read its manual. Casio’s module 5733 guidance distinguishes examples marked 5 BAR, 10 BAR, and 20 BAR; the G-SHOCK name alone does not tell you which rating or use guidance applies. Even a water-resistant model should not be treated as immune to every exposure: Casio warns against pressing buttons while the watch is wet or submerged and against exposure to baths, hot pools, saunas, soaps, or detergents. Follow the specific instructions for your model.
What to ask for when booking service
- Confirm that the provider will use the battery specified for your exact model or module.
- Ask whether the gasket will be inspected and replaced if needed, and whether gasket replacement is included in the quote.
- Ask whether a water-resistance or pressure test is performed after the watch is reassembled, and what the test covers.
- Tell the provider about visible damage, prior moisture, or any particular water use that makes the seal important.
Service scope varies by location. For example, Casio Singapore says its battery-replacement fee includes a current-consumption test, water-pressure test, and gasket replacement. That is a Singapore service description, not a promise about what a provider in another market includes. Confirm the scope and price with the local provider before authorizing work.

Stop using the watch if moisture appears
If the glass fogs and the condensation does not clear, or you can see moisture inside the watch, Casio advises stopping use and taking it to the original retailer or an authorized service center. Do not rely on a battery replacement or a dry-looking case exterior as evidence that the watch is safe to use around water.
