Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesTo remove both the underline and clickability, right-click the link in desktop Outlook and choose Remove Hyperlink. To keep the link clickable but try to remove only its underline, change its font styling instead; the result may look different in recipients’ email apps.
Choose whether the link should remain clickable
Outlook offers two different fixes: remove the hyperlink, or change the text’s appearance while leaving the hyperlink in place. Use the first when the text should no longer open a web page; use the second when readers still need to follow the link.

| What you want | What to do | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Keep the text, remove its link | Choose Remove Hyperlink | The text remains, but it is no longer clickable as a hyperlink. |
| Keep the link clickable, hide its underline | Change the hyperlink’s font appearance or apply text underline formatting | The link may remain active, but how it looks can vary by recipient’s email client. |
Remove the hyperlink but keep the text in desktop Outlook
- In the message body, right-click the underlined link.
- Select Remove Hyperlink.
The visible text stays in the message; only its hyperlink behavior is removed. Microsoft documents this operation for Outlook for Microsoft 365 and several Outlook releases. See Microsoft’s instructions for removing or turning off hyperlinks.

Remove every hyperlink in the selected message text
Press Ctrl+A to select the message text, then press Ctrl+Shift+F9. This removes hyperlinks from the selected text, so use it only if you want all of those links to stop being clickable.
Keep the link clickable and try to remove only its underline
In desktop Outlook, right-click the hyperlink and choose Font. Use the font controls to remove underline styling if that option is available in your version. This changes appearance rather than removing the hyperlink; Microsoft’s guidance does not establish that every recipient’s email client will preserve the no-underline appearance. See Microsoft’s guidance on changing hyperlink appearance.
In Outlook on the web, select the text and use the compose formatting controls to apply or remove underlining. Those controls format the text; they do not guarantee that an active link will appear without an underline in every recipient’s client. Microsoft describes the Outlook on the web text-formatting options.

- Open File > Options > Mail > Editor Options.
- Choose AutoCorrect Options, then open AutoFormat As You Type.
- Clear Internet and network paths with hyperlinks, then confirm the changes.
Microsoft lists this setting for classic Outlook for Microsoft 365 and Outlook 2016, 2019, 2021, and 2024. It prevents automatic conversion of internet and network paths as you type; it does not remove hyperlinks already in a message. What to know about Outlook on phones and link previews
Outlook for iOS and Android supports links and underline formatting, and Microsoft identifies Aa in the compose toolbar as the rich-formatting control. Its mobile instructions do not verify steps for removing a link while retaining its text or suppressing only the underline, so the desktop context-menu directions above should not be assumed to apply on a phone. See Microsoft’s pages for Outlook for iOS and Outlook for Android.
If your concern is a rich preview card rather than an underline, that is a separate feature. In Outlook.com and Outlook on the web, go to Settings > Mail > Compose and reply > Link preview to disable link previews. This changes the preview, not the hyperlink or its underline. See Microsoft’s link-preview settings.

Consider accessibility before removing the underline
Underlining can help readers distinguish links from surrounding text when color alone is not enough. If you keep a link active but remove its underline, use descriptive text that makes the destination clear—for example, “Read the Outlook formatting guide” rather than “click here.” Microsoft’s Outlook accessibility guidance advises against vague link text and notes the value of underlining for people who may not distinguish color-coded links.
