The rectangle—not the text—will be clickable, so test it in Slide Show view.
Hide the underline and keep the link clickable
Microsoft documents this method for PowerPoint for Microsoft 365 and PowerPoint 2024, 2021, 2019, and 2016. It replaces the text’s hyperlink with one assigned to an invisible shape.

Right-click the linked text and choose Remove Hyperlink.

Go to Insert > Shapes > Rectangle, then draw a rectangle over the text.

Right-click the rectangle and choose Format Shape.

In the Format Shape pane, set Fill to No fill and Line to No line.

Select the rectangle itself—not text inside it—then choose Insert > Hyperlink. Enter the destination in the Address box.

Start Slide Show view and click the covered text area to check that the link opens the intended destination.

Because the shape carries the hyperlink, size and position it to cover the intended clickable area. Microsoft’s instructions recommend testing the result in Slide Show view.

If you only want to change the link color
If the underline can stay and you want a different color, select the hyperlink and use Home > Font Color to change that link. To adjust colors across the presentation, use Design > Variants > Colors > Customize Colors, then change the Hyperlink and Followed Hyperlink theme colors. These controls change color; they are not the documented way to hide the underline while retaining clickability. See Microsoft’s hyperlink color guidance.
Why not just toggle underline formatting?
Microsoft lists Ctrl+U as a Windows shortcut for applying underline, but its linked-text instructions use the transparent-shape method instead. The available guidance does not establish that toggling Ctrl+U alone suppresses hyperlink styling consistently across versions or platforms. Similarly, Clear All Formatting can remove underline along with other character formatting, but it is not established as a reliable way to hide a hyperlink underline while preserving the link. Platform and version scope
The dedicated procedure covers PowerPoint for Microsoft 365 and PowerPoint 2024, 2021, 2019, and 2016. The cited instructions do not confirm the same menu sequence in PowerPoint for the web or mobile apps, or document interface differences among the listed desktop releases. If a menu label is missing, check which platform and version you are using and consult the matching Microsoft help material.
