How to Remove Testers After a 14-Day Google Play Closed Test

For Google Play closed tests covered by the new-account rule, confirm 12 testers stayed opted in continuously for 14 days before changing access. Then manage the track and any separate contact lists independently.

If you mean a Google Play closed test, don’t remove qualifying testers just because 14 calendar days have passed. First confirm the required testers have remained opted in continuously, then submit your production-access application. When you no longer need the test, change tester eligibility in the closed-test track’s current Play Console controls; Google’s help guidance does not specify an exact removal-button sequence.

First confirm which beta test you mean

These instructions are for a Google Play closed test. Apple TestFlight and other beta programs have different tester controls and requirements. Google’s 12-tester, 14-day rule applies to personal Play Console developer accounts created after November 13, 2023—not universally to every Play developer account. Before removing anyone, check the production-access requirement

For an account covered by the rule, at least 12 testers must be opted in to a closed test continuously for at least 14 days before you apply for production access. The milestone is the application, not simply the end of a 14-day calendar window.

  • A tester who opts out before completing the 14-day continuous period does not count for that run.
  • If that tester opts back in later, their new 14-day period must be consecutive.
  • Meeting the minimum does not guarantee production access. Google reviews the application and may ask for more testing if fewer than 12 testers are opted in or engagement is insufficient.

Google’s guidance says to tell testers to remain opted in continuously for at least 14 days. Keep the qualifying group in place until you have submitted the production-access application and checked its status in Play Console. That is a cautious way to avoid interrupting the required run; it is not a quoted Google instruction to wait for approval before removing testers.

How to remove testers safely

  1. Confirm the platform and account. Make sure this is a Google Play closed test and determine whether the account is a personal developer account created after November 13, 2023.
  2. Check the track and tester status in Play Console. Verify that the relevant closed test has met the requirement for this app and account. Do not rely on the calendar alone if tester status indicates otherwise.
  3. Submit the production-access application when eligible. Be ready to describe the test, tester engagement, feedback received, changes made in response, and the app’s production readiness.
  4. Preserve participants if the review or testing is ongoing. If production access has not been granted or Google asks for additional testing, avoid disrupting qualifying opt-ins.
  5. When the test is no longer needed, use the closed-test track’s current tester-management controls. Google’s published requirement page does not document the exact removal interface, so the precise labels or steps may depend on the current Play Console UI. Do not assume that removing an address from another list ends the person’s Play test opt-in, or that it removes an already installed app.
  6. Clean up other contact channels separately. If you used an email list, group, or feedback chat, remove or archive tester contact details there according to your own privacy and retention practices.

“Remove testers” can mean three different things

  • End eligibility for the Play test: manage the person through the closed-test track in Play Console.
  • Stop future invitations: update the separate email or invitation list you used.
  • Remove someone from a discussion: update the feedback chat or community separately.

These are separate actions. Editing an external mailing list or chat does not itself establish that a tester’s Google Play opt-in has ended.

Keep useful test records for the application

Google asks developers applying for production access about the test, the app, and readiness for production. Record tester feedback and the changes made in response while the test is running. Google recommends recruiting people likely to use the app, including a diverse group, explaining clearly what to test, and providing a feedback channel. Google Play Console Help.
