To uninstall a sideloaded app from an LG webOS TV, first identify how it was installed. If you installed it as a webOS development package, use the webOS CLI to find its app ID and remove that ID. If it appears in the TV’s editable app list, use the on-screen delete control for your webOS version. A factory reset is not a one-app uninstall: it also removes other installed apps and clears account settings.
Choose the removal method that matches how the app was installed

LG documents CLI removal for development packages, but that does not establish that every app installed outside the Content Store uses the same route. Start with the method that matches the app’s installation path.

Remove a development package with the webOS CLI
LG’s webOS CLI can list apps on a target device and remove an app by its package ID. The ID may differ from the app’s display name. Use the exact ID shown by the list command; do not guess an ID or remove system components.
- Connect to the TV target. Configure the TV as a target device in the webOS CLI and confirm that the CLI can connect. LG’s example uses the target name
myTV; replace it with the name configured on your computer. - List installed apps. Run
ares-install --device myTV --list. Find the package identifier for the app you intend to remove. - Remove that identifier. Run
ares-install --device myTV --remove com.domain.app, replacingmyTVwith your target name andcom.domain.appwith the exact app ID from the list. - Check the list again if needed. Run the list command once more to see whether the app ID remains.
LG’s developer overview describes CLI operations including installing, retrieving, running, terminating, and removing apps on target devices such as webOS TVs. LG marks its older TV CLI documentation deprecated from March 2024 and recommends the newer webOS CLI. Use the current webOS CLI installation instructions if you need setup help, and consult LG’s CLI developer guide for the documented list and removal commands. Delete an app from the TV launcher
LG’s app-deletion guidance gives different controls for different webOS generations. The labels and images can vary by model, so use the instructions for your TV’s version rather than assuming every LG interface is identical.
webOS 22
- Press the Home button.
- Select Edit App List.
- Select the app you want to remove to reveal the trash icon.
- Select the trash icon and confirm deletion.
webOS 5.0
- Press Home.
- Select and hold the app for three seconds.
- Select the X and confirm deletion.
webOS 3.0 on 2016 models
LG Spain’s guide for 2016 models describes entering app edit mode from the launcher and selecting the X. The X appears only for apps that allow deletion; if it is absent, that editor does not offer a way to remove that app. For other generations or different menu labels, check LG’s model-specific app installation and deletion guidance.

If a Developer Mode app disappeared on its own
The webOS Homebrew project says a Developer Mode session is limited to 1000 hours and that apps installed through Developer Mode are removed when the session expires. Treat this as a possible explanation only for apps installed through Developer Mode; it is community-project guidance, not a universal rule for every sideloaded app. See the project’s Developer Mode guide.

LG says resetting a TV deletes account settings and installed apps. The reset menu path varies by TV year and webOS version. Because this affects more than the selected app, use LG’s reset instructions only when you intend to reset the TV, not as the first step for removing one sideloaded package.
