Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →To remove a DLSS 5-style graphics mod, first use the uninstall or restore option in the same installer or mod manager that applied it. That tool may know which files it changed and have backups of the originals. After its cleanup, use your game launcher’s file-verification feature if available; verification can check or repair game-managed files, but it is not guaranteed to remove every third-party mod file.
Choose the restoration method that matches how the mod was installed
| Method | Best suited to | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Mod’s own uninstall or restore function | A mod installed with a manager or installer that offers its own cleanup | Start here: it may track installed files and preserve originals. |
| Game-launcher file verification | Checking or repairing game-managed files after mod-specific cleanup | It may not detect or remove every third-party mod file. |
| Manual cleanup | A documented procedure where you can identify the mod’s files and access the original backups | Remove only files positively tied to that installation and restore its backed-up originals. |
Remove the mod safely
- Close the game. Do not remove or replace game files while it is running.
- Run the installing tool’s restore or uninstall action. Follow that tool’s own instructions rather than applying a command or file list intended for a different mod.
- If following the ShortFuse RenoDX/ReShade manual route, remove only the files recorded as installed by that procedure and restore the backed-up DLSS/Streamline files. The guide describes this community method as experimental, fast-changing, and not supported by NVIDIA; it is not a universal procedure for every DLSS 5-style mod. See the ShortFuse RenoDX guide.
- Keep unrelated graphics customizations. Do not delete ReShade presets, settings, or other mods unless the specific mod’s instructions identify them as part of its installation. Some settings files may contain user changes; pre-existing settings files may be restored from backup.
- Verify the game files in the launcher, if that option is available. Use the launcher’s own file verification or repair function after mod-specific cleanup. This checks game-managed files, but launchers differ and may leave third-party files in place.
Tool-specific restore commands are not universal
For a game managed by DLSS5 Swapper, its repository documents this PowerShell command:

DLSS5-Swapper.ps1 -Uninstall -GamePath "C:GamesSomeGame"
The repository also documents a corresponding -Verify command. These options are specific to DLSS5 Swapper; use the repository’s instructions for the exact game path and command syntax. Do not run them as a general way to remove a mod installed by another tool. See the DLSS5 Swapper repository.

What to do if you installed files manually
Manual removal is safest only when you know exactly which files that installation added or replaced and have the corresponding original files. Use the mod’s installation record or documented file list, remove only those additions, and restore backups for replaced files. If you cannot identify what changed or do not have the originals, do not guess by deleting files; use the mod tool’s restore option if possible, or let launcher verification repair game-managed files after removing only the clearly identified mod files.
Check whether the save depends on the mod
Removing a graphics mod does not automatically mean a save will be affected. However, general mod-removal guidance warns that a save can depend on modded content, potentially making it unusable or requiring a new campaign. Check the particular mod’s documentation and consider backing up the save before changing a modded game. See SEGA Support’s mod-removal guidance.

Why launcher verification is a follow-up, not a substitute
Game installers may manage the DLSS libraries packaged with a game or application and remove those components when uninstalling it. That is different from a user-facing procedure for undoing a third-party mod. Clean up through the mod that made the changes first, then use launcher verification to check the game-managed files. NVIDIA’s DLSS release guide discusses application packaging, not a universal method for removing third-party graphics mods.
