For supported hardware listed under Other devices, go to Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Devices, expand the intended device, then choose Remove beside Remove this device. Wait for its entry to disappear. Bluetooth devices, printers, displays and docks use their own removal controls; USB storage should be ejected before you unplug it.
Remove a device listed under Other devices
- Open Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Devices.
- Under Other devices, find the hardware you want to remove and select its entry to expand it.
- Check that the expanded entry belongs to the intended device, then select Remove beside Remove this device.
- Wait until the device disappears from Other devices. Microsoft says it can then be safely removed from the list. Microsoft’s instructions for managing devices in Windows 11 cover this route.
Use the removal path for your device type
Bluetooth devices
Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Devices, locate the device, open its More options menu and choose Remove device. Microsoft recommends removing and adding a Bluetooth device again as a troubleshooting step for connection problems. If you still want to use it, pair it with Windows again afterward. Microsoft’s Bluetooth troubleshooting guidance describes this process.

Printers
Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners, select the printer and choose Remove. This removes the printer from Windows’ installed list. See Microsoft’s printer instructions.

Wireless displays, adapters and docks
Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Devices, find the device under Wireless displays & docks and select Remove device. Reconnect it later if you need to use it again. Microsoft’s wireless display guidance includes troubleshooting steps.

USB flash drives and external hard drives
Do not use the general Settings removal steps as a substitute for ejecting removable storage. Before unplugging a USB flash drive or external hard drive, open Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media and choose Eject. Microsoft warns that safely removing storage before disconnecting helps avoid data loss. Microsoft’s safe-removal instructions explain the process.
What removing an entry does
The steps above remove a device from the relevant Windows list; they do not, by themselves, delete the physical device or its files. For Bluetooth equipment that you intend to keep using, removal means you may need to pair it again.
