On most Samsung Galaxy phones and tablets, open Settings > About phone or Settings > About tablet to find the IMEI. If you can’t access the device, check its original box, carrier account, or bill of sale; account-based tools may also help if they were set up and are available in your region.
Find the IMEI in Settings
- Open Settings.
- Tap About phone or About tablet.
- Locate the IMEI in the device details. On some older models, tap Status first.
Menu names and available screens can vary by model, software version, and carrier. Samsung US Support notes: “Available screens and settings may vary by wireless service provider, software version, and phone model.”

Try the dialer code
Open the Phone app and enter *#06#. When supported, the screen displays the IMEI and serial number. Samsung cautions that the code works only when supported by the carrier, so use Settings if nothing appears.

Look it up without opening the device
If you can’t use the phone or tablet, check these records and services:

- Original box: Look for the device identification label.
- Carrier account or bill of sale: The IMEI may appear in the account’s device details or purchase records.
- Samsung Members: Samsung documents this as a possible lookup route when you can access the relevant account and device registration.
- SmartThings Find or Google Find Hub: These may provide device details when the service is available in your region and was set up for the device.
Account-based options depend on account access, prior setup or registration, and regional availability. Samsung describes these as possible routes, not options guaranteed for every device.
Check physical markings safely
Depending on the model, the IMEI may be printed on the back of the device or beneath a removable battery. Do not try to open a phone with a non-removable battery to find it: Samsung UK warns that doing so can damage the device and void its warranty.

Make sure you copy the right identifier
The IMEI, serial number, and model number are different identifiers. If a carrier, service provider, or support form asks for the IMEI, copy that field specifically rather than substituting the serial number or model number. Samsung’s instructions cover these identifiers and their lookup locations: Samsung US Support, Samsung UK Support, and Samsung Philippines Support.
