On Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One you can configure the controller wirelessly; on a Windows 10 or Windows 11 PC, connect a compatible USB-C cable while configuring it. The programmable Action Button can be assigned to shortcuts such as screenshots and gameplay capture. Microsoft’s current Nano documentation does not list controller-wide sliders for stick sensitivity, deadzones, or vibration strength, so those adjustments must be made in an individual game when that game provides them.
What you can change on the XBOX Nano Controller
The Nano has two separate customization layers. The first is controller-level button mapping in Xbox Accessories. That layer changes what a supported physical button does and stores the choice in a profile. The second is the programmable Action Button, which can be assigned to shortcuts exposed by the app, including screenshots and gameplay capture. These assignments travel with the profile rather than changing the game’s own control menu.

Stick response and rumble are different. Microsoft’s product and Store information confirms mapping and Action Button customization, but it does not document a Nano-specific page with universal sensitivity sliders, deadzone values, or vibration-strength controls. If a game offers those settings, adjust them in that game. Do not expect a single Xbox Accessories slider to alter every title unless Microsoft adds that capability in a future app or firmware update.

Supported devices and connections
| Device | Connection documented for the Nano | Where configuration is performed |
|---|---|---|
| Xbox Series X|S | Xbox Wireless | Xbox Accessories app on the console |
| Xbox One | Xbox Wireless | Xbox Accessories app on the console |
| Windows 10/11 PC | Bluetooth for compatible PCs; USB-C cable for Windows configuration | Xbox Accessories app for Windows |
| Android or iOS device | Bluetooth | Use the device and game’s own controller options; the documented remapping workflow is for Xbox consoles and Windows |
| Compatible smart TV | Bluetooth | Use the TV, cloud-gaming app, or game’s available controls |
The controller contains an internal rechargeable battery. Charging uses USB-C, and the cable is sold separately in Microsoft’s listed specifications. Check the box contents or retailer bundle before beginning a PC setup. A cable that only supplies power may not provide the data connection needed by the Windows Accessories app, so use a compatible USB-C cable.

What you need
- The Nano powered on and paired with the console or device you intend to use.
- Xbox Accessories installed or available on an Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, or Windows 10/11 PC.
- A compatible USB-C cable for Windows configuration.
- A game, training area, or other safe place in which to test the new assignments.
Remap buttons on an Xbox console
- Turn on the Nano and connect it to your Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One.
- Open the Xbox Accessories app from the console’s apps list.
- Select the Nano Controller shown in the device list. If more than one controller is connected, check the physical controller name before continuing.
- Choose Configure.
- Select an existing profile to edit, or choose the option to create a new profile. A new profile lets you keep the factory-style arrangement available for other games.
- Choose each supported button you want to change and assign one of the functions the app presents. The available choices can vary with the connected controller and platform, so use only assignments that the Nano’s screen actually exposes.
- Save the profile, then return to the controller page and confirm that the intended profile is active.
- Launch a game or a low-risk practice area. Press every remapped control once, verify menus and gameplay actions, and switch back to the original profile if anything behaves unexpectedly.
The app, rather than a universal printed chart, is the authority for the functions available on your particular console and controller state. If a button or function is not listed, the Nano’s current configuration does not expose that assignment through the supported workflow.
Remap the Nano on Windows 10 or Windows 11
- Power on the controller and connect it to the PC with a compatible USB-C cable.
- Open Xbox Accessories on Windows 10 or Windows 11.
- Select the Nano Controller in the app. If Windows shows several gamepads, identify the Nano before editing a profile.
- Click or select Configure.
- Create a new profile or open an existing profile for editing.
- Choose a supported button, select the replacement function offered by the app, and repeat for the other controls you need to change.
- Save the profile and leave the controller connected while the app confirms the change.
- Open the target game and test the mapping in a practice mode, tutorial, or unranked session. Confirm face buttons, bumpers, triggers, sticks, and menu navigation separately because a remap that feels correct in gameplay can make system menus confusing.
After configuration, you can use the connection method supported by your game and PC, including Bluetooth where compatible. Keep the cable connected while troubleshooting so the Accessories app has a stable device path. If the controller does not appear, disconnect other gamepads, reconnect the USB-C cable, and reopen the app before trying to edit the profile again.
Assign the programmable Action Button
The Nano’s Action Button is a distinct programmable control. In the same Xbox Accessories configuration area, select the Action Button and choose a shortcut that the app exposes. Microsoft specifically identifies screenshots and gameplay capture as examples, along with other frequently used shortcuts. Save the profile after assigning it.

Test the Action Button outside a critical match. A capture shortcut may open an overlay, pause the game, or briefly change focus depending on the console or app. If the Action Button is comfortable for a particular title, keep that assignment in a game-specific profile; for a different title, create another profile or restore the default behavior so an accidental press does not interrupt play.
Profiles: a practical way to manage different games
Create a baseline profile
Start with a profile that leaves the standard layout intact except for the one change you know you need. Name it clearly if the app offers profile naming, such as “Default” or “Standard.” This gives you a known recovery point when experimenting with a new arrangement.
Build a game-specific profile
Duplicate or create another profile for a title that benefits from a different layout. For example, a player who frequently presses a face button with the right thumb can move that function to a more reachable supported control, then keep the original profile for other games. Treat this as an ergonomic example, not a universal recommendation: the best assignment depends on the game’s action layout and your hand position.

Verify the active profile
Before a session, open Xbox Accessories and check which profile is selected. A correct profile on the wrong controller, or a correct controller with an unintended profile, can look like a game malfunction. Test one distinctive action, such as opening the pause menu, before entering a competitive match.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteCan you adjust sensitivity, deadzones, or vibration?
Stick sensitivity
No dedicated Nano-wide sensitivity slider is currently established in Microsoft’s product or Store documentation. Sensitivity is therefore a game-level setting unless a later Xbox Accessories release adds a controller-level control. Open the game’s controller, aiming, camera, or input menu and look for sensitivity options there.
Stick deadzones
The same limitation applies to deadzones. A deadzone determines how far a stick must move before the game registers input, but the Nano’s documented configuration workflow does not promise a universal deadzone editor. If a particular game exposes inner or outer deadzone values, change them in that game and test for drift, sluggish starts, or over-sensitive movement.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
Vibration strength
Microsoft’s current Nano information does not establish a global vibration-strength control in Xbox Accessories. Use the game’s vibration or haptics setting when available. Some games provide only an on/off switch rather than a percentage slider; that is a limitation of the game’s menu, not evidence that the controller is defective.
Why this distinction matters
A profile remap changes which action a button sends. A game setting changes how that game interprets an input. Keeping those layers separate prevents a common mistake: searching the Accessories app for a deadzone control that exists only inside the game, or changing a game’s sensitivity when the real issue is an incorrectly assigned button.

Connection choices for play after configuration
| Use case | Recommended documented link | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One | Xbox Wireless | Use the console’s normal controller-pairing process. |
| Compatible Windows PC | Bluetooth for play; USB-C for Windows configuration | Bluetooth compatibility depends on the PC. Keep the cable available for configuration and recovery. |
| Android or iOS | Bluetooth | The phone or tablet and the game must support controller input. |
| Compatible smart TV | Bluetooth | The TV or cloud-gaming application determines which controls and shortcuts are recognized. |
The Nano’s wireless method does not change the assignments saved in a profile, but the host platform can expose different menus or supported functions. A shortcut available on an Xbox console may not be recognized by a mobile game or smart-TV app.

Troubleshoot common configuration problems
The Nano is missing from Xbox Accessories
- Confirm that the controller is powered on and connected to the same console or PC where Accessories is open.
- On Windows, reconnect the compatible USB-C cable, try another USB port, and close other controller-management software that might claim the device.
- Disconnect unused gamepads so the app presents the Nano clearly.
- Restart the Accessories app and then power-cycle the controller before trying again.
A button assignment will not save
- Return to the profile screen and make sure you selected Save after editing.
- Check whether the function is actually listed for the Nano. The available mapping set depends on the controller and platform.
- Test the profile in a simple game or menu before assuming the assignment failed.
The game still uses the old layout
- Verify that the edited profile is active on the Nano.
- Check the game’s own controller-remapping menu; a title can override or reinterpret inputs.
- Restart the game after changing its local controls if it does not detect the new mapping immediately.
The Action Button opens an unwanted overlay
- Open the active profile, select the Action Button, and choose a different shortcut or restore the default option shown by the app.
- Test the replacement outside a competitive session to ensure it does not trigger an overlay or capture command at an inconvenient moment.
Stick movement feels wrong
- Check the game’s sensitivity and deadzone menus before changing the controller profile.
- Return to the standard profile to determine whether the problem is a remap or a game-level input setting.
- If the game offers no tuning controls, keep expectations realistic: the documented Nano configuration does not provide a universal sensitivity, deadzone, or vibration-strength panel.
Testing checklist before relying on a profile
- Confirm the intended profile name or selection in Xbox Accessories.
- Press every changed button once in a safe menu or practice area.
- Check that an assignment has not removed a function you still need, such as menu navigation or cancelling an action.
- Test the Action Button separately from ordinary gameplay buttons.
- Play for several minutes with the game’s own sensitivity, deadzone, and vibration settings unchanged, then adjust those game settings one at a time if needed.
- Keep a baseline profile available so you can recover quickly.
Nano size, battery, compatibility, and launch details
| Specification | Documented detail |
|---|---|
| Length and weight | A little over 5 inches long and 3.5 ounces, according to Xbox Wire’s October 14, 2026 announcement. |
| Inputs | All 18 standard gameplay inputs. |
| Battery | Internal rechargeable battery. |
| Wireless support | Xbox Wireless for Xbox consoles; Bluetooth for compatible Windows PCs, tablets, iOS, Android devices, and smart TVs. |
| Wired connection for Windows configuration | Compatible USB-C cable. |
| US launch price | $49.99 at launch. |
| Availability | Beginning in November 2026. |
| Compatibility | Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Windows 10/11, Android, and iOS; smart-TV support is listed for compatible Bluetooth devices. |
The small size is a central design characteristic: Xbox describes the Nano as its smallest controller and says it is lighter and shorter than most modern smartphones. That can make a reassigned control easier to reach for some hands, but comfort is personal; use the testing checklist rather than assuming a remap will suit every player.
Bottom line for configuring the Nano
Use Xbox Accessories on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, or Windows 10/11 to create and save supported button mappings. Assign the Action Button there for capture and other shortcuts that the app lists. Use a compatible USB-C cable during Windows setup, and handle sensitivity, deadzones, and vibration in each game because a universal Nano control panel for those values is not currently documented. Save a baseline profile, test every change in a safe area, and only then use the customized layout in a competitive or high-stakes session.
