You can apply for a .si domain from outside Slovenia through a registrar that accepts customers in your country. Register.si’s published terms define a domain holder as a natural or legal person and set out no Slovenian-residency requirement, but individual registrars may impose their own country, payment, or verification rules.
Choose a registrar that accepts overseas customers
Ordinary .si domain applications go through a registrar, not directly to the registry. Register.si describes registrars as intermediaries and provides an official registry website and registrar information. Before ordering, confirm with the registrar that it currently accepts customers from your country and supports your payment method.

DNS or hosting may be separate services, so check whether they are included only if you need them. Provider-specific prices and policies vary and are not set out in the registry’s terms.

Check your proposed domain name
Under Register.si’s General Terms and Conditions, a domain name must be 2–63 characters long. It cannot begin or end with a hyphen, and consecutive hyphens in the third and fourth positions are generally prohibited, with an exception for an allowed IDN ACE string. Check the registrar’s search tool for availability and reserved status before paying.

The terms reserve 113.si, 112.si, si.si, and rs.si for specified Slovenian public bodies. A name that follows the character rules may still be unavailable or reserved.
Apply through the registrar
- Search for the name. Use the registrar’s .si search to check availability and confirm that the proposed name meets the registry’s rules.
- Enter holder and contact details. The application is submitted through the registrar. Provide accurate information and follow its instructions for any verification.
- Select the registration term and pay. Register.si permits terms of one to five years. Its terms describe complete applications as processed automatically on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to the registration conditions and payment through the registrar.
- Set up DNS and keep your account details current. If you want the domain to point to a website or email service, configure the necessary nameservers or DNS records with the registrar or your DNS provider.
Understand contact checks and public data
Registration data must be accurate and up to date. At registration and renewal, the registrar verifies at least one contact detail—email or telephone—for the holder or administering contact. If a risk-based review indicates that a registration may be malicious, the registrar may also verify the holder’s identity and postal address. These rules are described in Register.si’s data collection, verification, publication, and disclosure policy.

Register.si says public registration information is available through its RDAP-connected database. For legal entities, the public data includes holder, technical contact, and registrar information. For natural persons, only the contact email is published by default; additional disclosure is optional.
Renew before expiry and know the cancellation conditions
A .si registration can be renewed for a term of one to five years. If it is not renewed by expiry, the domain enters quarantine; the terms cap quarantine at 30 days, and the registry’s user guidance describes a 30-day quarantine. Confirm renewal dates and procedures with your registrar rather than relying on an assumption that a domain will remain available.
Register.si’s registration and return guidance allows cancellation within 16 days of registration only if the service has not been activated. For domain registration, the registry treats nameserver records being submitted to its activation systems as activation. Its guidance says an eligible domain must show WHOIS status “inactive” and RGP status “Add Period.” The registrar’s contract and instructions also apply, so check them promptly if you may request a return.
