Start by finding out which part of the stream is struggling. Your VPS sends the encoded feed to YouTube; YouTube then transcodes it and delivers playback to viewers. Changing VPS location can improve the VPS-to-YouTube route, but it does not directly control YouTube’s delivery route to viewers in India. For a show that does not need real-time interaction, try YouTube’s Normal latency setting first: YouTube describes it as its highest-quality option with the lowest viewer buffering.
First identify where the buffering happens
There are two different network legs to diagnose: the outbound connection from your VPS to YouTube’s ingest service, and YouTube’s playback delivery to each viewer. A stream-health warning or dropped frames at the encoder points toward the first leg. If the stream appears healthy but viewers report stalls, the issue may be in playback or a viewer’s last-mile connection instead. A viewer report alone does not prove the VPS is at fault.

- In YouTube Studio, check the stream health messages during a representative broadcast.
- Ask affected viewers whether playback is stalling for them specifically; if available, have them check Stats for nerds and note whether Buffer Health falls as playback stalls.
- On the VPS, compare outbound bitrate, encoder-dropped frames, CPU headroom, reconnects and route stability with the timing of the reports.
A generic speed test can be useful context, but it does not establish that the VPS can continuously deliver the selected stream to YouTube’s ingest endpoint. YouTube recommends testing with audio and movement similar to the actual show and monitoring stream health while live. See YouTube’s encoder settings and live-streaming guidance.

Choose latency for the kind of show you run
In YouTube Studio, open the live-stream settings and select the latency mode that fits the interaction you need. For a broadcast where chat does not need to respond in near real time, choose Normal latency. YouTube says this setting gives viewers the highest quality and the lowest amount of viewer buffering.
#1 Best Overall
- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
- OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.
- Normal latency: Best starting point when playback stability matters more than rapid audience interaction.
- Low latency: A compromise if you need more timely interaction. YouTube says most viewers experience latency under 10 seconds, but this is not a guarantee for an individual viewer or a measure of buffering.
- Ultra-low latency: Intended for highly interactive broadcasts. YouTube says most viewers experience latency under five seconds, but the player has less read-ahead buffer and buffering risk can rise.
YouTube’s explanation is direct: “The lower the latency, the less read-ahead buffer the video player will have.” If you lower latency to improve interaction, you are trading away playback headroom; it is not a general buffering fix. See YouTube’s latency guidance.
Match the encoder to the chosen stream format and VPS capacity
Use YouTube’s recommended bitrate for the exact combination of codec, resolution and frame rate you selected. Do not copy a bitrate from a different table row or assume one target applies to every format. YouTube’s current settings guidance, accessed October 3, 2026, lists 10 Mbps for H.264 at 1080p/30 fps and 12 Mbps for H.264 at 1080p/60 fps. Those figures apply only to those specific combinations; check the current table for other formats and codecs.

- OneMesh Compatible Router - Form a seamless WiFi when work with TP-Link OneMesh WiFi Extenders
- Next-Gen Wi-Fi 6 Technology – The Archer AX10 leverages advanced Wi-Fi 6 features like OFDMA and 1024-QAM to deliver improved efficiency across your entire network. Perfect for high-bandwidth activities like streaming, gaming, and smart home connectivity.
- Next-gen Dual Band router - 300 Mbps on 2. 4 GHz (802. 11n) plus 1201 Mbps on 5 GHz (802. 11ax)
- Connect more devices than ever before - Wi-Fi 6 technology simultaneously communicates more data to more devices using OFDMA and MU-MIMO while reducing lag dramatically
- Powerful Dual-Core 900MHz Processor – Handles multiple data streams simultaneously for reliable performance across your devices. Ensures smooth streaming, online gaming, and video conferencing without buffering or lag.
- Set the encoder to constant bitrate (CBR), as YouTube recommends.
- Set a two-second keyframe interval; do not exceed four seconds.
- Confirm the VPS can sustain the selected outbound bitrate continuously, with room for network variation. One speed-test result does not prove sustained delivery.
- Check that the VPS has adequate CPU headroom for the chosen codec and encoding workload. AV1 and HEVC can offer improved compression relative to H.264, but support and encoder capability matter.
Use YouTube’s encoder settings table for the exact codec, resolution and frame-rate row you plan to stream. Do not substitute the National Informatics Centre’s 2–4 Mbps-per-stream figure for YouTube’s recommendations: that figure describes the NIC webcast service context, not a universal YouTube target.

Verify the VPS-to-YouTube connection
For an ordinary encoder workflow, YouTube recommends RTMPS, the secure extension to RTMP. Check the settings in your encoder or streaming software and verify the following:

- NIGHTHAWK WIFI 6 ROUTER FOR YOUR WHOLE HOME: Delivers fast, reliable WiFi across every room of your apartment or small home for streaming, gaming, video calls, and smart home devices, all running at the same time without slowing each other down.
- WORKS WITH YOUR EXISTING INTERNET SERVICE: Pairs with your existing modem or gateway via ethernet. Compatible with most cable, fiber, DSL, and satellite providers. Some gateways and modem router combos may require bridge mode. No coax needed.
- SET UP AND MANAGE YOUR NETWORK WITH THE NIGHTHAWK APP: Download the free Nighthawk app on iOS or Android for guided setup. Manage WiFi, run speed tests, pause devices, and set up guest networks from anywhere. Active internet required.
- READY FOR THE DEVICES YOU ALREADY OWN: Your phones, laptops, and TVs work right out of the box. WiFi 6 delivers speeds up to 1.8 Gbps across 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. Backward compatible with WiFi 5 and earlier.
- COVERAGE IN EVERY ROOM: Covers up to 1,500 sq. ft. for up to 20 connected devices. Walls, floors, and interference can reduce range. Larger or multi-story homes may benefit from a NETGEAR Orbi mesh WiFi system.
- The protocol is RTMPS, not a mistyped or unintended URL scheme.
- The ingestion hostname and stream path are correct for the endpoint YouTube provides.
- The stream key is current, belongs to the intended YouTube stream and has not been pasted with extra characters.
- The VPS can establish the connection on port 443, and TLS/SNI and endpoint settings are valid.
Endpoint, port or TLS/SNI mistakes can cause connection errors. They should be corrected if the stream is failing to reach YouTube, but switching protocol is not a default cure for viewer-side buffering. YouTube also supports HLS and DASH ingestion, which have different latency and format trade-offs. Its HLS guidance describes one-to-four-second media segments; smaller segments can reduce latency but increase rebuffering risk and reduce encoding efficiency. Use a different protocol only when your workflow requires it and you understand the trade-off. See YouTube’s RTMPS and encoder guidance and Google’s ingestion protocol comparison.
Test whether a different VPS location would help
Treat an India-based VPS as a hypothesis to measure, not a guaranteed way to reduce buffering for Indian viewers. The VPS location can affect the route from your encoder to YouTube ingest. YouTube handles transcoding and viewer delivery afterward, so proximity between the VPS and a viewer does not by itself show that playback will improve.

- Next-Gen Gigabit Wi-Fi 6 Speeds: 2402 Mbps on 5 GHz and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz bands ensure smoother streaming and faster downloads; support VPN server and VPN client¹
- A More Responsive Experience: Enjoy smooth gaming, video streaming, and live feeds simultaneously. OFDMA makes your Wi-Fi stronger by allowing multiple clients to share one band at the same time, cutting latency and jitter.²
- Expanded Wi-Fi Coverage: 4 high-gain external antennas and Beamforming technology combine to extend strong, reliable, Wi-Fi throughout your home.
- Improved Battery Life: Target Wake Time helps your devices to communicate efficiently while consuming less power.
- Improved Cooling Design: No heat ups, no throttles. A larger heat sink and redefined case design cools the WiFi 6 system and enables your network to stay at top speeds in more versatile environments.
- Keep the codec, resolution, frame rate and bitrate the same for each candidate VPS.
- Run comparable broadcasts to the same YouTube ingest endpoint, with representative motion and audio.
- Compare sustained throughput, packet loss, reconnects, encoder-dropped frames and stream-health messages over time—not just a brief speed test.
- Choose based on measured route quality to ingest, sustained outbound capacity, CPU headroom and service reliability. If the stream health remains good while only some viewers report stalls, changing VPS region may not address their playback path.
Available evidence does not establish which Indian state, city or ISP has the best YouTube playback route, nor does it compare Indian VPS regions in a controlled test. Avoid attributing stalls to a particular Indian peering or CDN cause without measurements from the affected VPS and viewer networks.
Troubleshoot by symptom
| Symptom | What to check | Practical next step |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube reports stream-health problems or the encoder drops frames | VPS outbound bitrate, sustained network capacity, CPU headroom, reconnects and route stability | Test with representative content; confirm the correct bitrate for the selected format; reduce the workload or bitrate only in line with YouTube’s applicable encoder guidance. |
| The feed reaches YouTube inconsistently or fails to connect | RTMPS scheme, ingest host and path, stream key, port 443, TLS/SNI configuration | Correct endpoint or connection settings, then run another preflight test. |
| Viewers stall while the stream health appears good | Viewer Buffer Health and whether the reports are limited to particular viewers or connections | Try Normal latency if interaction needs allow it; gather playback details before changing VPS region or protocol. |
| Stalls become more noticeable after choosing a lower-latency mode | Latency mode and the show’s need for rapid audience interaction | Move to Normal latency, or Low latency if interaction is important and the compromise is acceptable. |
| A speed test looks fine but the stream still has trouble | Continuous delivery to the specific YouTube ingest endpoint, not only general internet speed | Measure the live route over a representative period and compare it with YouTube’s stream-health signals. |
