If a horror game makes you dizzy, nauseous, or gives you tired, dry eyes, pause and change one thing at a time. Start with camera effects you do not control—such as shake, bob, blur, and automatic movement—then adjust sensitivity and field of view. For eye comfort, take distance-looking breaks, reduce glare, and set up the screen comfortably. No single setting is proven to work for everyone, and you should stop playing if symptoms begin.
Why horror games can make you feel unwell
Motion sickness can happen when the visual information you see does not match signals from your balance system and other movement-sensing systems. The CDC describes this sensory conflict as a widely accepted explanation for motion sickness; it is general guidance, not a diagnosis specific to horror games. A game may show movement while your body is sitting still, and some camera effects can make that visual movement more noticeable.

Eye discomfort is a separate but sometimes overlapping issue. Prolonged screen use and reduced blinking can contribute to dry or blurry eyes and headaches. The American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) says the small amount of blue light from screens is not the cause of digital eye strain and that special computer eyewear is unnecessary.
Which game settings should you try first?
Look in the game’s accessibility, camera, display, or gameplay menus. Menu labels and available controls vary by game and platform. Microsoft’s Xbox Accessibility Guideline 117 identifies camera field of view, camera movement and sensitivity, shake, bobbing, blur, weapon sway, and automatic camera movement as settings developers can make adjustable. It notes that “intentional decisions around settings related to camera field of view, camera bobbing, motion blur, weapon sway, automatic changes in camera angle, and more are critical when creating more accessible experiences.”

- 【INTEGRATED SPEAKERS】Whether you're at work or in the midst of an intense gaming session, our built-in speakers provide rich and seamless audio, all while keeping your desk clutter-free.
- 【EASY ON THE EYES】 Protect your eyes and enhance your comfort with Blue-Light Shift technology. This feature reduces harmful blue light emissions from your screen, helping to alleviate eye strain during long hours of use and promoting healthier viewing habits.
- 【WIDEN YOUR PERSPECTIVE】Our sleek minimal bezel design ensures undivided attention. The nearly bezel-free display seamlessly connects in a dual monitor arrangement, delivering an unobstructed view that lets you focus on more at once, completely distraction-free.
- Disable camera shake and bob. Turn off screen shake and head or weapon bob if those options are available. These effects add movement that is not directly controlled by your inputs.
- Turn off motion blur and weapon sway. Try disabling blur during movement and sway effects, then see whether the picture feels more comfortable.
- Reduce automatic camera movement. Disable automatic camera turns or angle changes where possible. If the game lacks an off switch, look for a lower-intensity option.
- Lower sensitivity or acceleration if turns feel too abrupt. Make small adjustments and test them in a safe area or during a short session. A lower setting is not automatically more comfortable for every player.
- Experiment with field of view in small steps. Try a modest change, then assess how it feels on your display. Microsoft supports making field of view adjustable but does not establish one ideal direction or value; its effect depends on the game, display, and player.
Change one setting at a time where practical. That makes it easier to notice which adjustment helps or worsens your symptoms. These are individual experiments, not a guaranteed cure or a universally validated preset for horror games.
How to reduce eye discomfort while playing
The AAO recommends occasional breaks to look into the distance, a comfortable viewing distance, a slightly downward gaze, and adjustments to brightness and glare. Try these practical steps:

- QHD Resolution (2560 x 1440) has 1.7 times the pixel density of Full HD for incredibly detailed pinsharp images
- HDR10 provides brighter highlights and nuanced shadow for added depth - making every scene feel more vivid and realistic
- The 180Hz refresh rate minimizes lag for gameplay with ultra-smooth action. Plus, the 1ms response time helps capture your moves in real-time, allowing you to react fast for gaming precision
- AMD FreeSync reduces choppiness, screen lag and image tearing, ensuring that your fast-paced, complex in-game action is stable with minimal stutter
- Ergonomic stand allows for tilt, pivot and height adjustments to maximize gaming comfort
- Sit about 25 inches—roughly an arm’s length—from the screen, if your setup allows.
- Position the screen so you look slightly downward rather than straight ahead or upward.
- Reduce reflections and glare, and adjust brightness to a comfortable level for the room.
- Pause occasionally and look at something in the distance. The AAO’s 20-20-20 rule is one reminder: every 20 minutes, look at something at least 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds. It is a helpful prompt, not a guarantee or a medically required schedule.
People normally blink around 15 times per minute, according to the AAO, and the rate can be cut in half during screen or other near work. If your eyes feel dry, the AAO suggests artificial tears as an optional way to ease dry-eye symptoms; they do not address motion sickness.

Stop the game and rest if dizziness or nausea begins instead of trying to push through. Square Enix advises contacting a physician for further guidance if you feel dizzy or nauseous. If you are considering medication or ongoing treatment, ask a pharmacist or clinician; medication guidance is outside the scope of these game-setting and eye-comfort recommendations.

What is—and is not—established
Official accessibility guidance supports offering players controls over camera movement and visual effects, while general health guidance supports breaks and comfortable screen habits. The available evidence does not establish a special monitor, glasses, medication, or one optimal field-of-view value for preventing discomfort in horror games. Travel advice from organizations such as the CDC and NHS is general motion-sickness guidance, not a direct test of gaming interventions.
