Back up the watch in Galaxy Wearable, start the transfer from the watch’s settings, then finish pairing in Galaxy Wearable on the new phone. Samsung warns that some watch and software combinations may reset during reconnection and erase existing data, so make a backup before you begin.
Before you transfer: back up your watch
On the old phone, open Galaxy Wearable and go to Watch settings > Accounts and backup > Back up data. Wait until the backup process completes before starting the transfer. Samsung recommends backing up first because the outcome can vary by watch model and software version. Samsung’s reconnection guidance explains the backup step and the data-loss caveat.

Transfer the watch and pair it with the new phone

On the watch, swipe down from the top of the screen and open Settings > General > Transfer watch to new phone. Tap the check mark to begin.

On the new phone, open Galaxy Wearable and tap Start. Select your watch from the list. Samsung’s setup instructions describe this pairing flow.

Compare the number displayed on the watch with the number on the phone. If they match, tap Confirm on the phone.

Follow the agreement and setup prompts, then wait for the connection to finish.

If the phone shows Select item to restore, choose the backed-up data you want to restore.

If you cannot find the transfer setting
The menu path can differ by watch model and software. Samsung Canada gives a different path for starting a transfer to a new Samsung Galaxy phone: Watch Settings > About watch > Transfer watch to new phone. If the setting is missing, check the Samsung support page for your exact model rather than assuming the watch cannot transfer. Samsung Canada’s pairing guidance provides that alternate path.

Will switching phones erase watch data?
It may. Samsung says that, depending on the Galaxy Watch model and software version, reconnecting to a new phone may reset the watch and remove all existing data. A completed backup gives you a way to restore available backed-up items if Galaxy Wearable offers the restore screen, but do not assume the watch will retain everything unchanged.

Compatibility depends on the watch model, new phone, and software. As a specific example—not a universal compatibility list—Samsung’s US guidance for the Galaxy S25 series says Galaxy Watch FE, Watch7, Watch Ultra, Watch6, Watch5, Watch4 and older listed families are compatible. The same guidance says Gear Sport, Gear S2 Classic, Gear S3 Frontier, Gear S3 Classic, Gear Fit2 and Gear Fit2 Pro are not compatible with Galaxy phones running Android 14 or later. Check the support information for your exact phone and watch before troubleshooting a pairing failure. Samsung’s Galaxy S25 compatibility page contains this region- and phone-specific example.
