To broadly refresh Instagram recommendations, use Reset suggested content: go to your profile, open the three-line menu, choose Content preferences, then tap Reset suggested content and confirm. Meta says this clears recommended content across Explore, Reels, and Feed. It is a fresh start—not a permanent off switch—and recommendations personalize again as you interact with Instagram.
How do I reset suggested content?
- Open Instagram and tap your profile picture to go to your profile.
- Tap the three-line menu in the upper-right corner.
- Open Content preferences.
- Tap Reset suggested content.
- Review the notice and confirm the reset.
This is the path Instagram published in its November 19, 2024 announcement. Meta said the control clears recommendations across Explore, Reels, and Feed; it does not describe the action as unfollowing accounts or deleting account data. The reset was announced as rolling out, so if you do not see the option, check Content preferences again after an app update or later—the menu and availability can vary by account and app version. If Instagram offers the option during the reset to review followed accounts, you can separately unfollow accounts whose posts you no longer want in your followed network. That review is optional and distinct from resetting recommendations.

Use the feedback controls on individual recommendations when they appear. Instagram may offer controls such as Interested, Show more, or Show less, as well as options to hide or snooze a post. Labels and controls can differ by surface.

- Use positive feedback on recommendations you want more of, such as marking a post as interested or watching content you genuinely like.
- Use negative feedback on unwanted recommendations, such as selecting Show less or hiding a post where those controls are available.
- Spend time with topics and accounts you want reflected in recommendations, and avoid lingering on unwanted recommendations.
Meta says its systems respond to signals such as whether someone watches a recommended video or likes a post, as well as whether they watch briefly and leave or explicitly provide feedback. Should I reset or tune recommendations one at a time?

Choose a reset when recommendations broadly feel out of step with your interests. Use individual controls when the issue is limited to particular posts or topics and you want to keep the rest of your current recommendations.

Why can unwanted content still be recommended?
Personalization and recommendation eligibility are separate. Meta’s Recommendation Guidelines describe standards that determine whether content is eligible to be recommended broadly; content can be allowed on Instagram without being eligible for recommendation.
